So ever since I took my hard top of and replaced with a softop back in the summer, periodically when I start my 2020 JL the heater motor blows at top speed for about 30 seconds and then shuts off. I've started to turn my heater off when I finish driving, setting it up ondefrosters, which has slowed the occasions down but it still happens. It is out of warranty and I haven't consulted the dealer yet. This is my first attempt to see if it has happened to anyone else.

The too has no influence on the hvac up front. Likely a computer issue. Just talk with the dealer to get an idea if this is an easily fixable item.

I don't think changing your top configuration would cause that. If it is any consultation, my 2023 JLUR392 does similar and I haven't swapped out the hardtop yet. The only thing with mine is that lasts for about a minute when it does it.

It's likely the HVAC's "Auto" feature operating in a manner other than expected. That's the takeaway from the other forum threads that mention the issue.

Agree that it wouldn't be affected by the top that is installed on the vehicle.

My gremlin go to is to disconnect the batteries for 10 minutes and do a hard reboot. You'd be surprised how often this fixes weird problems.

Step one troubleshooting any computerized item. Sadly, the JL is more computer than not.

Sounds like a ballast resistor problem. If you have auto AC there may not be a ballast resistor
