Is this a normal thing ? Both sides where the top meets the rear quarter window …. Seems to me it should rest closer to the windows …

Sadly the 4 door soft top is not as good as the 2 door. There is the fitment, and also the vibration when the windows are rolled down.

Yes, normal, at least on the JLUs.

That bowing out is the first thing I noticed when I drove on to a CDJR dealer's lot for the first time back in 2020. Most new Wranglers had what we see in your photos, to varying degrees. With respect, yours is a bit worse, but not excessively so.

What I've noticed, at least a couple of times, is that the bowing out seems to be a bit more pronounced, on average, on the premium acrylic fabric tops, than it does on the standard sailcloth tops.

Had the same issue. Got the top replaced under warranty and the bowing is worse on the new top. Thought it was the frame, but the service tech said it was the top itself. So only the fabric was replaced and one of the side windows.
The rear windows are more secure though on the new one. Surprised at the poor fitment. Right side is worse than the drivers side. Premium top too.

Here’s the pictures I have the premium top. And it’s been on the Jeep for 3 years now. I haven’t put my hard top back on since installing the soft top lol

Normal, mine is like that too... a little less pronounced but flares out. It helps channel the water away and for sure when the windows are out and you're in safari mode.
