i like tinkering with my 2019 jlus. i’ve read a lot about how to add proximity locks and considered it but now i’m wondering… why?
i think this is a nice option for those with backpacks or purses but, with the key fob being so large (which i don’t mind), i usually take it out of my pocket and place in the console while driving. some might say, put the large fob in a backpack, and you don’t have to worry about anything however, the only other thing I have to carry is a small wallet and phone, and I’m not so sure that’s enough to justify use of a backpack. am I missing something here? I’ve never had this option before, so maybe I’m just ignorant regarding the benefits? Please feel free to educate me as far as should i spend the time/money on this and why (besides it being a nice excuse to tinker in the jl). thanks for your insight.

Do you want it? If so go for it, otherwise save your money for something more useful to you.

Hell I drive a soft top vehicle I never lock my doors anyway.

Mine work great, but it's not something I would miss. I often have to pull the handle twice because I'm faster than the locks. And as someone else said, soft top or top off there is no reason to even lock it. I only got it as part of a dealer's quick order package for an otherwise no option Rubicon.

Yep!
Just....just try opening my doors please. Take a look at all of the things that don't cost money. Be my guest.

hate having to pull the fob out just to unlock the door. If i needed a key to start the jeep it be a different story...
Count me as one that thinks the whole push to start thing is a silly gimmick too.

It's not a Ferrari it's a Wrangler. One more way that Jeep is losing touch.

I have it and mine works great, it is a nice feature. With that said I am not sure I would miss it if it was gone and I certainly wouldn't pay to add it after purchase. Too many other mods that need my $$

I rarely ever use mine either. I always just reach into my pocket and hit the button on the fob to unlock. My wife uses it, but her keys are usually in her purse.

So two things.

First we love the proximity door locks, but then again, we have two young toddlers and it makes life a lot easier when you are carrying one and possibly have a bag as well. Never thought I would care about the feature, but here we are. It's nice not having to dig for the fob in my pocket, or in my wifes case a backpack/diaper bag.

Second, OP if you want to reduce the size of the fob, Threedom makes a good retrofit that makes it as minimal as possible.

I have it and use it. But there are plenty of more practical mods you could spend your money on.

Proximity and push-button start is an answer to a question I didn’t ask, but I kind of like it. I’ve had to train myself to use it.

And now I find myself leaving my keys in the vehicle, or the keys in my pocket, for my vehicles that require a key and fob. D’oh!

if you want it, do it…

After carrying several things and having to try to find the key cause pride wouldn’t let me put the things down I decided I needed it. Fairly easy to install. I like to tinker anyway and haven’t had an issue in the year I’ve had it on there. Your mileage may vary
