Hello,

Is anyone near Sedona right now? I read there is a snow storm and even some highways are closed ??

I am traveling from Minnesota to Sedona this weekend for some jeep trails. Wondering if they are all closed and I need to quickly cancel my trip and figure something else out .. .

Is the snow melting fast? Is there even snow still? Trails open but extra sketchy from the snow?

Advise ? What would you do?

While I’m not in Sedona, I’d probably cancel. From what I’ve read and seen the area had significant snowfall making accessing everything very difficult. I read 8”+ which is quite a bit for that area.

I was in Sedona proper on 2/28. This was two days after the snow on Sunday. All the snow melted by Noon on Sunday. Roads are clear, trails are clear but muddy. Up north around Flagstaff got heavier snow and I-40 was closed for a bit on Sunday.

Couldn’t tell you about conditions from Minnesota to Sedona as we flew in and out of Phoenix.

Sedona has been featured extensively on the local channel 5 in Phoenix this past week. Lots of snow. That equals lots of mud. Here in Wickenburg our back country roads are muddy, muddy... Places where there are clay deposits are a quagmire. Save up your quarters you'll need them to get the red bathtub ring off your rig.

UPDATE: Friday morning at 6:50 am the local yokel channel 5 said Sedona got 11" of snow from the most recent storm that ended yesterday. I would bag the Sedona thing.

Thanks for the quick responses guys .. .I'll call the ranger station as mentioned above as well..

forgive me if this is or isn't super obvious, as I've never been there before . I'm assuming there's normally never snow, so when the snow melts the trails are "unusually muddy" as in, probably unpassable and not worth even trying, and even if I did make it, i would be ruining the trails by making huge ruts ?

Sedona gets snow every year. That said, never a good idea to be on a muddy trail.

Also, since I'm at work and don't have much time to quickly find another place, does anyone have any recommendations ?

I'm willing to drive anywhere in the united states, have 9 days to travel, and looking for trails that my stock Rubicon can do.

I've done Moab and Colorado many times already, where else should I start looking?

It’s a tough winter in the west with all the snow we’re getting. If you can push the vacation a few weeks, you’ll have many more options.

But if it has to be now, I’d check out St. George UT (Sand Hollow trails). Of course, check weather conditions.

I'd say still come to Sedona and if the trails are too muddy by the time you get here, you can always drive 1 to 1.5 hours south and find plenty of trails in the desert.

If you like to boon dock, there are months of wheeling around the Wickenburg area. Most of the advanced crawling is old mining trail too narrow for a Jeep except for the old flat fenders or TK or JK that you don't mind banging up.

I may do that, have any places you recommend that I can google and look into to get started?

I second the Sand Hollow area outside of St. George/Hurricane, UT. Plenty of challenging trails for any skill level to keep you busy, not many people there this time of year, and gorgeous views.
