Interesting from that angle it looks like the rails themselves are tighter to the frame (ie mounting bolts slightly inwards, only by an inch, but seems a smaller stepping surface)..

I think you might be right. I've never seen the JK's in person so I'm not really sure. It's definitly not a large stepping surface, but it works fine for me.

So I couldn't get access to tools, so I dropped it off at the Jeep dealership to install for me. ($40). They called and said they would have to take the body off because the bolts would not come all the way out. So I called Ace...and they are closed for President's Day. I send them a mail via their web site and they call me in five minutes. Apparently the bolts after unscrewing all the way have to have some downward pressure to remove. (They don't just fall out.) They were nice enough to give me their cell number to get the Jeep dealership to call him for instructions. These guys at @ACE Engineering know how to run a business. Best customer service ever!
same great customer service for me too. been working with Matt at ACE.
my dealership installed my sliders today, but i'm getting a fairly loud creaking sound at low speeds. anyone else?

snipe:
yes they did. i showed them your instructions!!

is the easy fix a piece of rubber?
Might just need to loosen body bolts, re-position the slider so absolutely no metal to metal contact and then while holding the slider firmly in position, tighten the body bolts up firmly and torque to 80 Ft./lbs.

If the slider can't be positioned so there is no metal to metal to metal contact then you can file / grind a little little bit so there is no metal to metal contact. Sure you can place a piece of rubber but to file is best bet. Easy fix. Tell Mat at ACE that this issue is being reported here.

So, I received my Ace Rock Sliders this week and I tried to install them this evening. I started removing the front left bolt first and it was really tight. After getting it out about 1/2”- 3/4” I realized this thing is likely cross-threaded. I then removed the middle and rear bolts on this same side just to verify that I wasn’t crazy. I tried a little more to get front bolt out but it started “popping”. I then decided to just put it back in and take this to a shop for them to install. Next twist on the bolt and it sheers off. So, questions:
1. Is the JLUR body mounting bolt the same as the JKUR? Can I just go to Jeep and get one at the dealership?
2. Thoughts on how to get the bolt out? I’m thinking I’ll just take it to my body shop mechanic and have them pull this thing out.

Bolt needs downward pressure once it stops coming out any further. Pull down on bolt and it will pop out.

Last Wednesday, Matt at ACE said my rails would ship in 7-10 more days. And here they are, on Day-9. Thanks ACE!

ACE Rails went on in 30 minutes with the help of my 18 y/o son. His first time turning big bolts. We loosened with 18” breaker-bar ratchet. Then used cordless impact gun while pulling down on the washer with fingers to get the bolts out. Easy-peasy. Then reassembled with rail in place and torqued. Looks like we might have some rub on the front bracket, but we’ll deal with that with a file or rubber strip, or both, if necessary.

Here’s how a Size-10 hiking boot looks on the rail. Perfect size for me. It will be easier with sneakers or flip-flops.
