Hi Group,

I’m looking to swap out my wheel lug nuts from chrome to black to match the alloys.

Any recommendations on the best make to go for?

Size from the owners manual is in the attached image.

I evaluated black lugs for good minute before putting them on my 21 Willy's. Here were my considerations regardless of brand. A lot of the cheap acorn nuts are two piece. Basically a nut with a thin stamped decorative cover. They dent and scratch easily. You get what you pay for when it comes to metal. That being said the quality of the spline drive and premium brand acorn style lug nuts is on a different level as they are generally machined. One thing to consider is the OD of the base. The contact patch of all the lug nuts is pretty much the same. The taper on the nuts extends out beyond the contact patch differently. The spline drives have the smallest OD. Then premium acorn syle. The cheap acorn style have the largest OD due to the lip that holds the top piece on. This is irrelevant if you have aftermarket wheels where the black finish extends into the mounting hole. It does not on the factory wheels. You will have a little ring of bare metal showing that grows based on the OD of three lug nuts. Don't believe me... zoom in on photos of black lug nuts on factory wheels.

For me the quality of the cheap acorn nuts was unacceptable. My OCDs couldn't live with bear metal ring that comes with the spline drive nuts on an otherwise blacked out Jeep. I went with the slightly more expensive Mc Gard acorn style 23 piece set and haven't looked back although I do have a whisker thick unfinished line.

Note also that the Mc Gard lugs use the same socket as the factory nuts including the locking adapter. Another bonus.
