Relocated the CHMSL to behind the spare earlier this week.
10 minute job that makes a big difference.
Spare does not have to be taken off.

Unbolt the 4 retaining screws and the light assembly pulls right up. Then remove ALL screws and unplug the light and it will come off the stand.
You can bolt it to the carrier or use 3m double sided tape.
It looks so much better. I've done this to every Wrangler I've owned since 1986.

Today I finally got the Mopar CHMSL relocation bracket and installed it. I ended up removing it because in order to get your spare tire off you have to unplug and unbolt the light first. I decided to put the light behind the wheel but I didn't like that the wheel hid half of it. So I went to Canadian Tire and picked up a round LED backup light for about $27.

Here is the result:

Nice ! I see there are 3 wires, I'm assuming red is power (brake lite) black is ground, what is white wire for ? Thanks. My CHMSL on JK is 2 wire

Red is brake power, Black is a running light power and white is ground. I don’t use the black wire since I am only interested in the brake light. I originally thought black was ground too.

Edit: the JL is only two wire. The light I bought is dual purpose.

Thanks ! Your install is neat, I'll copy it !
If you epoxy the bracket to the plastic, scratch up the plastic to help the epoxy bond to it. Also, I used some dielectric grease on the connector to keep water out.

For those considering the Mopar 3rd Brake Light Relocation Kit or for those that need a bracket for a back-up, rear Aux light. etc., there is now a vendor that has made a knock off of the Mopar offering. Looks just like the $85 Mopar offering but you can get this one for $53.99.

I just bought this from Amazon. If you rotate your spare tire every 5k miles, do you have to unbolt and disconnect wiring to remove the spare? If so, that could be very annoying if you dont rotate your own tires.

@ChattVol

With the CHMSL Relocation Kit installed, to remove the spare you have to remove 2 M8x30mm T-45 Torx Head bolts to get the cutey black grill off.... then you just remove the lugs and drop the spare.

To disconnect the LED 3rd brake light, takes a second to disconnect a single connector that is easily accessible.

Reality is, it may take you an additional 2 mins. to do the aforementioned.

IF I were having a shop do my rotation, I would remove the cutesy black grill and disconnect the 3rd brake light in the parking lot of the shop doing the rotation just before they did the rotation. Not a big deal at all to do this.

I've attached the install instr. for the Mopar offering. This knock off installs the same way. Very easy install.
