Looking for any ideas to fabricate a floor panel in place of the rear seats. Not keen spending that money on buying one if I can make something. Thanks

We made one from 5/8” plywood. I made a template from cardboard first. Once I got the shape right I added the large support piece that runs left to right across the transmission hump. Getting the measurements for that was tricky, cut it tall and trim it shorter until it sits level in the back. There is a cable that comes out of the top of transmission hump towards the back. We avoided having anything resting on that. The side and center braces were much easier, glued and screwed it together then put carpet on it. Took most of a day it moving the thing in and out of the Jeep consumed a lot of that time.

sorry for the terrible pics

So I had the great idea to store it in the closet underneath all the camping gear... but I’ll pull it out this evening and draw it up. I can’t remember why the vertical parts have notches in them so when you’re building be sure to look under the carpet to make sure you aren’t squishing something important.

You bet, I tried to be accurate but I'd double check the dimensions before making cuts. - and yes, I did have to rip the sheet length wise to get that extra 3/8" wide. I don't recall why but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Edit - Forgot to include the two 5/8" holes at the corners that drop over two seat mounting studs. They are 1" from each edge and keep it from sliding around.

Hi @BDinTX,
WOW!

Thanks very much for going to the trouble of making and sharing the dimensional drawings and providing the additional comments and tips.

Thank you!

I know its been a few years but hoping you are still in the forum and can answer a few questions about dimensions that are not on the diagrams.
  1. What is the height of the triangular cutout in the front support?
  2. How far from the front of the deck is the front support?
  3. How far in from the sides are the side supports?
  4. How far back from the front support is the cross brace?
  5. I see your diagram states two cross braces but I only see one in your photos. Where does the 2nd one go?
  6. Do you have it secured in place other than with the two seat bolts in those 5/8" holes?

Hey boss, yep still here. You know… I actually threw that away last week.

1. The cutout in the front was to clear the driveshaft hump without touching. Measure the height of that and add 1/2”

2. It was probably set back 1-1/2 to 2”. The side supports reference from the sides where it angles in. That will locate the big cross brace.

3. Subtract length of the cross brace from width of platform, divide by 2

4. Not certain, reference from the feet on the side pieces.

5. The 2x small crossbrace pieces are glued and screwed together

6. No not secured. If the bolt holes are recessed you could put a nut on it but there was so much piled on it, it wasn’t going anywhere.
