Hey everyone so I’m looking for some advice as I have never had to deal with bad axle bearings. I was rotating my wife’s tires on her JLU last night when I noticed that there was fair amount of play in both of the rear wheels after being torqued down. I have a JL as well so I checked mine to see if play was normal and mine didn’t even budge.
So my question is how do I tell which rear axle she has(2018 Jeep JLU Sport)? Would you just replace the bearings or the whole axle shaft assemblies? We don’t really off-road so definitely not looking for the beefiest setup but rather bang for buck to fix it. I watched a couple YouTube videos on this and it seems like you’d need a bearing press if you choose to just change out the bearings, is this something that can be rented or am I better off just changing out the whole shaft assembly? Thanks for you help and any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
