So I have a 2020 3.0 with 10k soft miles as its a toy. The batteries were replaced under warranty about a year ago. Never had a problem with the jeep until I added the Tazer to adjust tire size shut off the intermittent at best ESS and the TPMS warning. Long story short pulling a grade just me and a passenger with AC on, not super hot out like 85 ish all of a sudden I light up like a christmas tree. Service electronic throttle control, traction control, ABS etc.-go into limp mode. Pull over clear codes and resume with no more issue. Fast forward take it on a long trip (600 miles) get about 400 away from home get the CEL no limp mode clear it resume make it 100 more miles CEL again after refueling and merging onto freeway. Pull over clear code and remove tazer completely as I had left it installed up to that point. And it was updated recently. Previous solution from Tazer support from draining battery to almost dead multiple times was to remove the extension cable-which helped for a while. All good for few weeks-last week driving around town get CEL codes for Nox sensors(both) just flat 50 mph cruise. Clear them fine ever since. The ESS has never ever worked reliably-being now the Tazer is removed ESS tries every once in a while (when I forget to hit the button) and when it goes to restart it puts the transmission in neutral. I have to put it in park quickly then back into drive and away I go. Before I go spend a bunch of money possibly diagnosing (maybe warranty?) does anyone know if the battery condition or lack there of could cause these random code issues? I checked fuses once before and do not have a battery minder. Do notice the gauge shows charging volts ranging from 12.1 up to 14.8 lately also. Any comments are appreciated. Apologize for the rambling....I have read thru a bunch of previous threads but have not seen any mention of the transmission shift/ESS, which has never thrown a light or code when it happens.
Latest codes that have not returned I managed to document:

It's never the case of "IF" but WHEN the auxiliary battery gremlins attack.
Agree with you I've never heard, mentioned or read, anything about "transmission shift/ESS" . Few and I don't know how truthful the claims have been, never removed or disabled the auxiliary battery and have never had an issue. It's my belief that is far and few. I would start at a minimum choosing the method you feel is best to get rid of the auxiliary battery. The electronic ghosts in these JL will run on their own. In the manual it recommends disconnecting the battery if it sits for long periods 20+ days. It being a 2020 with only 10,000 miles it must sit quite a bit. My 2020 is not a daily driver and I just keep an inexpensive trickle charger from Amazon connected. I find this easier and more proactive than just disconnecting the battery. IMO with all passenger vehicle batteries they should be changed every 36 months to prevent the unexpected battery failure. Expensive, Oversized, or those claiming "Long life batteries" >36 months, unless under perfect conditions and driving patterns are mostly marketing and a huge waste of money. Short mile trips around town WON'T properly charge your battery and keep it optimal.
Here's my suggestions: 1st Pull the aux battery. Completely eliminate it. 2nd Get a reputable inexpensive trickle charger and connected each and every time you're done driving and back home. 3rd Replace the main now the "everything battery" with a "good "not "best" once every 36 months. From experience this has kept my JL gremlins quiet and away. Good luck. If that doesn't also cure the transmission shift/ESS issue, which I think it will, please share your solution when you find it. Best of luck.
