New Jeep 4xe owner here. After constantly coming across "cracked windshield" posts, I decided to order some protective film before even taking delivery. ?
Well, I am EXTREMELY glad I did, which is why I felt like I had to make this post. I went with the Racing Optics film and got it installed a couple of weeks ago while my Jeep was in the shop getting the front windows tinted. The windshield film had a bit of an issue adhering in one spot, which might have been due to the liquid solution used by my tint installer. I reached out to Racing Optics and the customer service did not disappoint. They were extremely responsive and completely stood by their product, even offering to speak with the installer directly to iron out any issues.
Fast forward to today and so far I have taken TWO nasty hits to the windshield and no cracks. The first impact was near the top and was such a bad hit it sounded like someone shot the windshield with a BB gun. I almost expected it to be cracked even with the film because of how bad it sounded, but aside from a nick on the film, no damage. Today, on my way to work I was merging on the turnpike when a rock hit the drivers side directly in my line of sight. This one was really bad as well, and it appears to have made it thru one of the films layers. However, yet again the windshield lives another day.
A huge thank you to the forum members who found this stuff and posted about it. It has seriously saved my gl/ass... and over $1k in less than a month of ownership.
It's overcast and rainy today, but I will try to follow up with some pictures of the impact points.
