I got a quote from a shop here in FL and it came in at $1600 in labor, so the number doesn't seem too far off. I'm with you, I will be tackling the regear on my JLU this weekend so I guess I will see how it goes...

I have done a regear on a F150 in the past and it wasn't incredibly difficult, just need to set aside proper time and take it slow.
@ WandererJL was wondering if you tackled the regear, and how it went... I'm leaning more and more to attempting this myself in the near future. Just need several days off work in a row in case things go sideways...
