I just noticed that my wifes Rubicon rear shocks are both covered in black soot like substance. I assume its road grim and oil from the shocks.
This will be the 2nd time being replaced.

I found a set of NIB Fox 2.0 shocks 600 and a set of used 4k Eibach shocks $250 local and wanted to know which is better for what I do.

I drive most of time long distances on road. The rest of time in town and we do wheel the jeep but mostly rough roads.

I am sure we are not going to go larger than 35" tires and not lifting it. Stock bumpers and hard top.

I watched a few videos but they all seemed to be paid shills pushing one over another.

I like smooth ride and when off road i want that same smooth ride.
I also want them to last longer than the 25k miles like the stock junk has

I've had the same Fox's on several vehicles in the past. No complaints.

Yeah I am leaning toward those shocks. Even though they are more expensive, I think I am getting a better product.

I know Eibach is a reputable company I don't see/hear a lot about them on JK's or JL's. I would probably go with the Fox or just look at some new Rancho 5000 or bilstein 5100's. that way you would get the lifetime warranty for less money than the foxes.

We too needed to have the stock Rubicon shocks replaced under warranty due to 3 of the 4 already leaking before 15k miles...

Absolutely love the Bilstein 5100's that came with our Bilstein 1.5" lift kit. Great performance off-road and they ride nicely even on rough roads during the commute and long roadtrips. They pair very well with the Bilstein lift springs.

The Fox 2.0s will feel like clouds for most of what you are doing, unless you get into high speed whoops and they will blow through the stroke a bit quick... Also, expect them to start oozing shock oil around 20k miles... Their service/rebuild interval is 40k miles, but their seals seem to give up before that... They do ride nice though.

An even better option in my opinion is the Rancho RS7MT. They ride equivalent to Bilsteins (firm ride, you feel the road, but not harsh). They are stupid cheap, and people who have tried them like them. For longevity I would buy the Rancho RS7MT over Fox 2.0s.

Might need to lower your expectations some. The combo of Jeeps and offroad is rough on shocks; you'll likely need to rebuild or replace often if you are particular about having a smooth ride. I have Fox 2.0 remote res, they last about 3k miles offroad before having to be rebuilt. $210 each for a rebuild and I have a new, custom valved and recharged shock.

Ha!!! When you read posts about members experience with shocks, it is discouraging. My original 2020 Wrangler Rubicon shocks lasted ~35K. My second set only lasted 15K before one of them started leaking. I had previous experience with Bilstein's "firm" ride (on a Jeep TJ) so I was not going to try their shocks. I decided that the Fox shocks were the best for me and I ended up buying a MOPAR lift kit (on sale at Quadratech) with 4 Fox shocks for less than the cost of 4 aftermarket Fox shocks. I've been very happy with my choice.

FWIW, I would avoid used shocks unless they are new Jeep takeoffs.

Well update. I took off all of my RED Rubicon shocks and 3 of them was leaking.
So I cheaped out and went with Rancho RS7MT as they had a sale of 234 shipped for 4 of them.,

Install went well. But word of advice. Have a 2nd set of hands when you cut that strap. That nitrogen charge is STRONG.. I could not stop it from extending like I could most other types of shocks. Then fighting to get it back up there was no fun.
I guess I had just go use to terrible shocks . THe body roll and flopping side to side. NONE of that now. Smooth and when I hit those bridge cracks the wheel dont get pulled out of my hand.

I wish I would have went with the FOX just cause they PRETTY (wife said that ) THe ugly Rancho RS7MT seem to do the job and I hope they last longer than the 52k the stocks ones did in a halfass fashion.

I had the same experience. My red shocks were bad, at 30k miles, and installed RS7MT's on close out. I'm sure there are better shocks than Rancho, but these are world better than leaky Red shocks.
