Hey everyone!

New to the forums and first post here. To keep things short and sweet, my current lease of a Mazda CX-5 is up in 3 months and we're looking to get into a Wrangler Unlimited.

From a quick peak around the forums, it seems 10-12% below MSRP is what is expected for a 2018 Unlimited, correct?
I'm active duty and qualify for $500 off, and noticed there's a $500 JEEP rebate as well ($1000 total).

1. Are there any other rebates I can look out for? I'm located in San Antonio, TX so if anyone has suggestions on dealer to work with here, I'm all ears.

2. We're trying to cut costs and is a 2018 at that price point for a base model worth it vs the 2019's? Or is it really worth the price difference? We can get them for about $30K right now whereas the 19's are roughly $34K or more.

Here is one we're currently looking at: https://www.anciracjd.com/new-San+Antonio+TX-2018-Jeep-Wrangler+Unlimited-Sport-1C4HJXDN4JW329541

Is that a good price? I'm assuming I can knock off another $1000 with the rebates I know off the top of my head.

Your help would be much appreciated!

Just my opinion:

It's a low price. Going to be difficult to get lower than that on a JLU. If it were me, I'd be inclined to get the 2018 if the price was right, as its going to be almost identical to the 2019 (different dome light).

Based on personal preference, I wouldn't buy this Jeep as I'd rather a SportS 3.6 Manual to a Sport 2.0 8Speed if I was strapped for cash. But that might not be what would make you happy.

You might consider asking if they can shave a % for a Tread Lightly membership. Also, if you do purchase, check out the All-State discount.

What I love about this Jeep is that it's losing value to the dealership daily. Might not hurt to leave a phone number with a low ball offer and see how long it sits at this point.

Good Luck.

Thanks for your input.

This will be the wife's jeep. She's after the looks, not the features. It'll be a daily driver. doesn't know how to drive a stick either. Automatic has to be the thing, we won't be off-roading and thus the smaller engine is more economical for the daily.

We do have 3 kids. Will they fit well in the back?

Can you elaborate more on the tread lightly membership? I'm new to JEEP, I'm a Mazda fan, so I'm not sure about what other avenues there are. What's the all-state discount?

Thanks!

Will they fit in the back: Depends on the kids, car seat requirements, etc. Better go test drive one with everyone/everything in tow. My almost-10 year old daughter tells me that they could have squeezed another kid in betweer her and the 13 year old sister. But they are both out of car seats at this point (until the Tx Legislature makes anyone under 6' or 30 y.o. sit in a booster).

Tread Lightly is an organization that supports responsible outdoor trail ethics, etc. FCA offers a discount to members at the $100.00 and-up levels of 1% off factory invoice. Dealer participation varies, but as I understand it, most will honor it. The catch is you have to be a member for 30 days before you can use the benefit. See https://www.treadlightly.org/ for details.

Good luck!

Thanks. Sorry, I have 1 child in a car seat and 2 without boosters. Theoretically, 2 boosters and 1 car seat would essentially fit, no?

I plan on going there today after work and testing them out. Again, just really new to Jeep and haven't caught onto all the buzz yet. Still catching on with RAM lol

Theoretically, it SHOULD work, but again, it's all going to depend on the child seat/booster(s) in question, and the relative size of your kids. For example, our Britax Decathalon car seats were quite a bit wider than ye-olde-standard Graco ones. Two of them in the back of my Hyundai Sante Fe, and the third seat was enough for maybe a chihuahua. Two of them in the backseat of my Toyota Sequoia left room to squeeze a skinny kid in...probably.

It also depends if you have a linebacker 16 year old who is 6' tall, or waifish twin five-year olds. You're probably going to need to take them all up there to know for certain if they'll all fit, and more importantly, if they'll all fit comfortably...squeezing them in for a five minute ride to the grocery or to school is one thing, four hours over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house is entirely another.

I know what you mean on being a FNG around here. I started my study of all things Jeep Wrangler in depth about a month ago, after wanting one for decades. My first car was an '87 Wagoneer (the precursor to the Cherokee), and I've wanted a wrangler ever since. It definitely can be overwhelming. I've got several spreadsheets going, and a word doc with notes and tips I've pulled from reading through the forums. It can be like drinking from a fire hose. What can I say...I'm an over-researcher, and I don't like making expensive mistakes, which, considering the price of things designed for Jeeps, is relatively easy to do. The good thing is the people here are incredibly helpful and happily share their knowledge and experiences. You're in a good place to learn.

Good luck!
