FYI for anyone replacing headlight assemblies with a big-ass winch jamming things up.
On the way into town on Monday, I hit a black vulture with my Jeep at 55-60 MPH. There were a ton of them sitting on a fresh road-kill on the edge of the pavement. I was surprised I only hit one. Thankfully the guy on the motorcycle behind me was riding not far off of my bumper, otherwise he would have eaten some vulture.
It took out my driver’s side headlight lens, necessitating replacement, as you cannot order and replace just the lens.
Please note two things if you have to order one. First, they are side-specific. Second, you will pay about twice as much for a replacement that has the seven-slot Easter egg. On the Mopar website, you will pay about four times as much. I now only have one headlight with the Easter egg.
Normally you would remove the grill to easily replace the assemblies (only three bolts and a wire harness per assembly). However, when you have a huge 12K Badland Apex winch, removing the grill is not possible, without dismounting the winch or removing the bumper with the mounted winch.
However, as the grill is very flexible plastic, it does flex out far enough to make assembly replacement easy. Don’t be afraid to use this method; the grills are highly resilient. If you break yours though, don’t blame me.
That is all.
