Hey everyone! That`s not that kind of a forum but I`m pretty sure you have any suggestions. I’m considering a gas powered hedge trimmer. I’ll only use it two days a year likely but I have some heavy stuff to get through (laurel bush). Who has one, which brand and what do you think? Will one of those cheaper can tire ones suffice or do I go straight to the Stihl or Husky? Was also thinking of Husqvarna 122HD60 or Echo HC-152. Have read several articles like this one with reviews, and so now I have doubts...

I’m a fan of Stihl power equipment. It’s solidly built, it lasts, and if you need service there are actual dealers who can work on it. It’s not disposable equipment like most of the pressure washers or push lawn mowers I’ve bought lately.

Thanks! How long have you been using your Stihl already?

And also is it a lightweight one?

I don’t have their hedge trimmer, I’ve had a Stihl chainsaw for about 12 years and a lawn trimmer for about 6. I don’t know details about the hedge trimmer, just recommending the brand.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
If you are using it twice a year, I would buy an electric one. If you are sold on a gas model, Stihl is the only one I would buy.

I am performing almost the same search as you. in a similar situation with a couple dozen trimmed bushes around our main house and guest house. For the past 22 years, I've used hand shears but that's getting a bit old.

I'm looking at corded electric trimmers since a) they're lighter, b) the majority of the bushes are near a building with AC power, c) I don't need another small engine laying around 360 days/yr, d) corded electric trimmers are cheap as dirt.

I'm looking at a 22" black & decker for $49. If it doesn't work-out then I only wasted a small $$.

I'd be interested in hearing which way you go with this in the end.

If you go with gas, be sure to use only premixed, ethanol free fuel. For example:

Arnold Corp 6525638 TruFuel 50:1, Pack of 6 - 32oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0014Y3TTK/

A landscaper who runs his equipment every week can get away with mixing gas from the pump with oil, but for 2x a year you most certainly don’t want to do that.

FWIW, I like Husqvarna chainsaws, leaf blowers, and weed whackers. They actually provide a much longer warranty, too, if you use premixed fuel.

I have a Husky chainsaw and leaf blower. Both have been super reliable and if I was committed to gas trimmer, then that's probably where I'd be going.

I use too much fuel to buy the canned stuff. So I use Stabil and typically drain all my engines unless they get used weekly. In fact, that's been my job for the past two weekends as we get ready for winter. I also change out the tubing on my small engines so they don't rot out with the ETOH.
