Less than a 1000 miles on my Sahara JL and this weekend I noticed when I let off the gas pedal the tranny does not down shift and the RPM's stay the same. After a noticeable amount of time (30 seconds?) it does downshift and the RPM's go down. Not a huge issue right now but makes me nervous. Anyone else see this behavior?

I understand this is concerning for you, james@15. If you do decide to have this inspected by your Jeep dealer, let us know. We'd be glad to get this over to a Case Specialist for further handling.

I noticed that too once or twice. It was almost as if I was in manual mode. Eventually it down shifted but it took some time to do so. Hopefully thats by design?

It sounds like grade logic control. I remember when it was introduced. I really hated it. I've since become somewhat used to it. I really hate it when it leaves you in a higher gear on a downward slope and you need to get on the gas and it takes the computer a second to downshift. Sometimes the computer will learn your habits and it "supposedly" gets better.

I will look into grade logic control. Never heard of it and seems I should have noticed this between 0 and 900 miles. But... worth a look into. I do have an appointment at my dealership for this and a non functional garage door opener in a week.

Is it still doing the same thing? For me it hasn't changed. Still hangs quite a bit before downshifting.

Yes still doing it, though seems sporadic. The dealer said this is by design, though I'm not convinced. They said the computer will learn my driving habits and this will go away. I asked them how long the tranny is warranted for when they said that to me.

hmmm, I'll bring it up to my local dealer when bringing it in for service and see what they say (even though I prefer to do everything myself).

Mine only downshitfts once I start applying or tap the break. Otherwise I assume it si designed to not downshift right aay for fuel economy reasons? I dont know on that so only guessing. I dont think i have ever had a car specifically downshift by just taking my foot off the gas pedal. Seems coasting sometimes is wanted or needed without the need to apply engine breaking that drastically. Or am I thinking the wrong thing? I totally could be as I am at work right now and my brain is fried and everyone is getting ready to go to the bar lol

ZF is a learning transmission. Weird behavior is observer in my Ram ED as well I usually baby it on the highway, then when get into traffic and stop and go it gets confused and needs to readjust it’s shifting behavior. Also wouldn’t want the trans constantly shifting and overworking itself, I’d much rather prefer it hold gears a bit like you’re describing.

But that’s just me personally. Definitely bring it in if it concerns you.
