That looks pretty damn good man. If you wanted it perfect you could probably go .003 deeper or so. What’s your backlash? How thick is the current shim ? What brand gears? Bearing caps are torqued? Did you thin the paint? Coast side reading is a little sloppy.

Spicer 4.56
B/L .003
Pinion shim .45
Caps wrench tight but not torqued.

Might spin it with a drill to get better paint mark, but yeah coast side is worrying me a bit.

Thanks for input.

I always torque the caps before running a pattern. Not doing that can give you a false pattern.

And I don't spin with a drill. I hold the case and spin by hand. Maybe with a ratchet.

This. Spin it by hand several times in each direction with the caps torqued and pressure on the ring gear with your free hand. Clean all that paint off and thin the new stuff with gear oil.

Ok, I torqued the caps and put on thinner paint for a better pattern. It looks like the pinion is a bit too close maybe.

But, I decided to just buttoned it up and took it for a drive. I ran up and down the street in 4-low (taking it out of 4x4 to turning round). Went up to 35 mhp in 6th gear. I noticed just a bit of a whine, but it's hard to know if it's the diff or tcase.

Just double checking... I have a Sport with the command trac case, so when it's in 4Hi the front axle is engaged?
