I’m sharing my experience with some new Oracle Oculus Bi-LED lights I recently bought. I noticed a coating issue with the lens, and I wanted to let others know in case they’ve got the same problem.

I bought the lights just last week, and after installing them, I noticed that the lens had some areas with micro-scratches, while other areas didn’t. It was more noticeable when the light was shining through them. I thought there might be a scratch-resistant coating that didn’t stick during the manufacturing process, so I reached out to Oracle.

They were very helpful and replaced the lights under warranty. They said it looked like the protective plastic might have melted on the lens, which pulled off the coating. I noted the build date sticker showed 06-2023, so maybe that pair sat in the warehouse too long.

I got a replacement pair, but unfortunately, the same exact issue. The build date was again 06-2023, and the lens had micro-scratches in places and none in others where it looked like there was a coating. In fact, the replacement pair looked a bit worse.

In the pictures you can see where there’s coating and there isn’t. To the the touch, you can’t tell difference, since I’m sure the coating is super thin.

I’ve had good experiences with Oracle in the past. I think something might have gone wrong during the production of the 06-2023 batch. Maybe a QA issue at the factory.

I contacted Oracle again and they recommended returning the lights and getting a refund. They wasn’t sure what else they could do. I can’t imagine I’m the only one who’s had this problem, so I wanted to warn others to be careful if they recently bought these lights. I’d recommend checking them out before they get too bad.

I’m thinking of trying another brand or waiting a few months and try again. I really liked these headlights if not for the coating problem.

Oracle seems to have an ongoing quality issue in manufacturing. I have the heated Oculus BI-LED's, and they had issues with the heating elements with first version, and then again with the "improved" version that I have. They were very good about replacing the bad unit, and the headlights have lasted a couple years so far, but I wired the heating element to come on ONLY when I wanted it to, to prolong the life of the element. It's been on twice in that time, and only to test its operation for a total of an hour or so.

For the kind of money they want for their products, I would expect better quality control. This has stopped me from buying a couple of their other offerings for my JL...

I have their headlights which I purchased in 2021. They have been trouble-free however I have spoken to other owners that have purchased Oracle products more recently and have had QC issues. It's a shame the head light looks fantastic, I have been considering their rear lights for some time.

Exactly. I have their Sidetrack lights, and the first time I turned them on, noticed that one LED was burnt out. I decided that I could live with it because I didn't want to put half the jeep back together again while I waited for a replacement.

Just an update… the Diode Dynamics came, installed and have perfect lenses. They were a bit more work installing and adjusting, but I’m happy with the end result.

Oh wow! Mine look exactly like this. I don’t often look at my headlights while they’re on, so by the time I noticed. I assumed I scratched them the one time I wiped road grime off with snow.

That said, the halos on mine have dead spots. (And the DD reverse bulbs I bought died after 1 winter up here, so I haven’t wanted to try anything else by them.)
