I’m sharing my experience with some new Oracle Oculus Bi-LED lights I recently bought. I noticed a coating issue with the lens, and I wanted to let others know in case they’ve got the same problem.
I bought the lights just last week, and after installing them, I noticed that the lens had some areas with micro-scratches, while other areas didn’t. It was more noticeable when the light was shining through them. I thought there might be a scratch-resistant coating that didn’t stick during the manufacturing process, so I reached out to Oracle.
They were very helpful and replaced the lights under warranty. They said it looked like the protective plastic might have melted on the lens, which pulled off the coating. I noted the build date sticker showed 06-2023, so maybe that pair sat in the warehouse too long.
I got a replacement pair, but unfortunately, the same exact issue. The build date was again 06-2023, and the lens had micro-scratches in places and none in others where it looked like there was a coating. In fact, the replacement pair looked a bit worse.
In the pictures you can see where there’s coating and there isn’t. To the the touch, you can’t tell difference, since I’m sure the coating is super thin.
I’ve had good experiences with Oracle in the past. I think something might have gone wrong during the production of the 06-2023 batch. Maybe a QA issue at the factory.
I contacted Oracle again and they recommended returning the lights and getting a refund. They wasn’t sure what else they could do. I can’t imagine I’m the only one who’s had this problem, so I wanted to warn others to be careful if they recently bought these lights. I’d recommend checking them out before they get too bad.
I’m thinking of trying another brand or waiting a few months and try again. I really liked these headlights if not for the coating problem.
