If bench flash tuning for 6 Speed models was an option, would you do it?

@JeepinPete and a few others have inquired about getting tuned by me via bench flashing. So I am proposing this for 6 speed manual customers:

-One lump sum payment of $800 or $900 (GPEC2A vs. GPEC5).

-Price breakdown is $350 for the tune, $100-$200 for the HP Tuners credits, $250 for the ECU unlock, $100 convenience fee to cover costs on my end,

So all in to get your 6MT tuned with my stuff, your $800-$900 plus shipping to BMP instead of around $1400-$1500. You would ship your ECU directly to me. I take care of everything on my end, including the tuning. Turn around will be faster than the unlock time at HP Tuners. Your tune will be set up more conservatively for whatever fuel you are running. But No datalogs. No revisions. No extra $400 cost to have your own MPVI4. A one stop solution. Just plug your ECU back in and you’re ready to roll. Still with all the stuff BMP is known for (smooth power, refinement, stutter fix, better torque, etc.)

Technically 8 speed people could do this as well, but we wouldn’t be able to tune the transmission because the TCU resides in the valve body. Which is a big limitation. The 8 speed needs tuning to be paired nicely with the engine. So this will be for 6 speed customers only unless you plan on getting an MPVI in the future for the trans.

Please answer yes or no to the survey and put your thoughts below. If there is demand for it, I’ll get bench flashing equipment ordered today and update my website to reflect this service.

If a customer went this route and down the road wanted to get a more custom tune or the ZF customer wanted to do the transmission tune could they just buy the MPVI4 and gateway bypass?
I believe so, plus any credits needed.

Yeah they could always do that, would need the credits too. I would create a form asking customers what they want from the tune, throttle response settings, fuel octane, fans, etc and set it up as closely as I can to their recommendations since there wouldn’t be the revision phase without an MPVI

I’ve already got ECU Hero and bench harness stuff ordered as this is something I’ve wanted to play with anyways, but so far, looks like I’m going to put this option into play

Different strokes for different folks. If I didn't already have the tuning done, and you gave me the option of $900 for bench tuning or $1,400 "full-access" tuning, I am still choosing the $1,400 option.

With the $900 option, I lose the ability for customization, changing tunes based on octane, reverting back to OEM tune for dealer visits, and datalogging. All of that to save $500? From my perspective, I already spent $50k for the vehicle and $900 for the unlock/credits, so an extra $500 is a drop in the bucket.

I think the primary barrier is the unlock process and the vehicle being undriveable for a couple of weeks. This was the primary barrier for a guy in my local Jeep club when I told him about your tuning, but he recently purchased a 2nd PCM for that reason.

Since the $900 option doesn't really make the process any more convenient, there is basically no benefit for me.

I only cast my vote so that you have a more accurate sampling, not to say it is a bad idea. If you are able to offer an additional service to help out some people, I think that is a positive thing!

Definitely a valid view point. Thanks Gabe!

I *would* vote YES, but since I've already done it, didn't want to skew your results.

Had I started my tune and clutch replacement a little later, I would’ve gone for your tune instead of Livernois. I prefer the way you set things up from what I’ve read! I may still reach out when I get my war chest built up a little bit again

This is what I suggested the other day - you being the only person involved makes the entire process easier for the customer.
It's a no brainer for the 6 speed customer who just wants their shit to run properly and be one and done with a simple ECU swap.

Going live with this guys, my own ECU bench flash materials will be in my hands shortly and my local guy has agreed to do the unlocking for me, working on updating the website now. $800-$900 single one place payment and simple ECU removal for the 6 speed customers is a great option!

Full disclosure: I already have Brad's tune for my 2025 Rubicon 3.6 6MT

The entire point of this process is to have a tune which is tailored to the vehicle - through data logs and revisions, Brad found areas where additional power/refinement was left on the table. Also, if something wonky is happening, it will show itself in the data log.

I agree that having the ability to adjust after the initial tune is a great option. This should work well for those who want to give it a try, with a lower up-front cost and greatly reduced downtime. If they decide to get the MPVI4 and do datalogging/tweaks later, I don't think the total cost would be any greater than using the initial method.

If this option had been available earlier, I would have taken it, purchased the MPVI4 separately, and I would be tuned already. Instead, I'm sitting here starting week 2 impatiently waiting on HPTuners.
