"old Shep"

Hey!

Welcome to the build thread for "Old Shep". Shep was a hermit that lived in my town under a bridge near the creek in the 1800s. Since I'll be spending a shit load of time there, and I needed a project name why not.

Please make comments/suggestions and ask questions (don't worry about hurting my feelings). I acquired lots of knowledge and experience during the years of upgrading and wheeling my JKU, but I would love to use this forum as a sounding board and idea generator. (yes I stole the format and last paragraph from Swampcat... Thanks Swampcat)

first mod. pulling the carpet and Rhino Coating inside and door sills. Carpet comes out easier than the JK with snaps to put it back in.

2 days later checked on progress and dropped bumper off to have it Rhino Coated.

Got bumper back, was told it was for JL Sport. Was off by a inch and needed to weld a inch spacer to have it fit. also wired the led fog lights

Next was the lift. Went with the RC 2.5" spacer lift. I wanted to keep the ride as close to stock and I'm not going to do a heavy wheeling till after my warranty expires.

Plasti dipped the stock rims while I waited for the new rims and tires

Switched out stock tires for new Cooper STT Pro 315 70-17 mounted on Fuel Hostage 17 inch rims with -12 offset

Spare fit great. didnt even need to move third brake light. Did need to add bigger bump stops. I found pipw connecters from Home Depot worked great. I just measured and used a razor to cut about 1/2 inch off then zip tied to OEM Bump Stop. (Pic enclosed) only thing now the right back up sensor goes off. Spare must be to big and its picking it up. Also 2 of my TPMS dont work. Tire store said some times it takes awhile to register. Taking in next week. Will need to get a TAZER to fix tire size. its off around 4 miles per hour.

bought some motorcycle mirrors off Amazon for $12 made some brackets out of Aluminum L channel I had laying around. Work great tested at 70 MPh no vibrations

Finally got my ROAM side steps. install was easy thanks the TTEChris write up. wired the lights tonight. i'll upload pics tmrw.

Made some grab bars for the wife. used a old web belt from my Coast Guard days. measured the length I needed, added two grommets. I then took 3/8 line and glue gunned it to the belt then wrapped it with 550 line. the 3/8 line gave it some thickness. They work great.

Just finished wiring the lights. Dam those wires are small. Didn't use a relay just connected them to aux 4. Look awesome and bright even in day light.

Are you likely to get water intrusion from this disrupting the door seal? I have been researching sill guards and read not to get one that curls over that little ridge. Thanks
