Questions regarding the rubber sheath that goes from the NOx sensor probe to the NOx sensor... box.

It's not the normal cloth or plastic sheathing of regular wires.
Why is the sheathing different? Does it contain a rubber hose or wires or is it silicone for the close proximity to the exhaust? Tagging @alphawolff and @mwilk012 because I think ya'll are both techs. Appreciate any help.

I'm asking because I had a CEL and P20EE code. The service department replaced the SCR and the DEF injector. I drove the jeep home, noticed that rubber hose was sitting on the exhaust so I zip tied it up out of the way. 4 miles later, the CEL came back on and when I got home the P20EE code had returned. I'm wondering if I pinched a hose inside that rubber sheath and caused the code myself.

Pulled a couple of frames from a video where he's replacing a Duramax NOx sensor. It's mounted differently but it appears to be the same type as ours.

There’s no hose. It’s all just wires. Without seeing data on upstream and downstream NOx readings, it’s impossible to say for certain what is wrong but it’s most likely just a bad sensor. Could be worse, but they already started replacing parts so they’re committed now.

Ok cool thanks for the reply. I’m hoping it was just the sensor since it kinda resets the clock for the replaced parts 😀

It's all just wires in there. It's possible something melted from rubbing on the exhaust but it'd be obvious. If you had the code and they replaced the sensor and the code came back then it might be something else. I'd just take it to them, as mwilk said they're committed

Ok thanks for the info. They replaced the SCR and the DEF injector but the sensor was obviously still the original one. It was still dirty 😆
