Hi everyone, my first posting here. My wife and I bought our third Rubicon about a year ago, it’s a 2018 Rubicon JL with the 2.0 turbo And about 40k miles. Love the vehicle. Last fall we started having quirky electric issues, then one day a dead battery. Not knowing the history, I bought both a Diehard AGM and a auxiliary battery. I opened it up to replace the aux, and surprise, everything is there but no battery had ever been installed. Anybody know why? It is my understanding all JL’s with the proximity sensor and auto-shutoff has them. To my bigger problem and reason for the post, it ran fine until a couple weeks ago. Once again, quirky little things happened and then a dead battery. The battery tests good from multiple auto stores. When I started monitoring the voltmeter in the instrumentation I noticed it indicating 13.4-13.7. I am used to seeing about 14.4 in everything else I’ve ever had, but this is an entirely new generation. Is this the normal voltage reading in this generation Jeep and drivetrain?

IF your JL does not have an Aux battery it is because you have an etorque JL.

You
@Bhartman have an eTorque, JL...

To tell ... eTorque or not...

Pop the hood and in say 15 seconds you can take a looksee and tell if it is an etorque JL or not....

With eTorque ........and the JL, you will see the factory has placed a solid metal jumper between N1 and N2 in the Power Distribution Center (PDC).

You will also find that there is NO, Aux battery negative cable attached to the Main batteries Neg terminal... you will just see an available stud on the Main battery neg terminal, with no cable attached to it...

And indeed, the plastic box under the PDC/ hiding behind the passenger fender flare, is there... but it does not have an Aux battery in it.. it is just an empty box.

And of course, if you crawl under... with eTorque, you will see, the 48v battery box will be these... - (with battery) just ahead of the rear axle on the drivers side.

Just a side note, on vehicles with traditional alternators many manufacturers have started using “smart alternators” and you’ll see varying voltages depending on driving conditions. It’s often accompanied by an IBS shunt sensor attached to the negative battery post.
