No more engine covers on the 3.6?

If you're getting heat build-up with the little plastic cover, then you're still getting heat build-up with a closed hood, though maybe a bit less with the sound dampening removed. Again, fake hood vents, if you got 'em.

Only takes a few seconds to take off a plastic cover for a good cleaning, but I prefer not detailing my engine bay every month, just a quick wipe down. And the same people that never pop their hood aren't going to clean the engine or the engine cover.

And 100% agree that the JL engine doesn't look bad at all, but if you had a Bronco 2.7L, I bet you'd wanna hide that ugly asymmetrical clusterfuck of a mess..

Oh, I do have a mod that was done when potato chip was removed....

If you looked at my recent post... getting back to basics, the marketing about the new 2024 grill is junk in my opinion. The rwo extra openings don't go anywhere along with the outer two grill openings.

I did a test with water... no need for custom rain gutter or rain deflector. Water mostly will fall away from engine. No worse than hitting large puddles or water fording with 37s. Kinda self cleans every rain and wash.

Nice! Having functional hood vents is definitely a solid reason for not having the plastic engine cover in my book. With a sealed hood and hood liner, I can't see it's removal making much of a difference while stationary.

Not sure about the JL, but my last vehicle was a scorcher and you could see a wavy heat haze coming from the vents distorting your view of whatever was in front of you when idling.

If temps are high and fan kicks in... the added open area in engine bay will allow fan air flow to blow around and over engine. The open hood vents will allow for more air flow to release heat.

One of these days I will try opening up more on the side fender vents. They are not as open as I would like.

Never understood engine covers. Seems like an easy way to retain heat.

I think I know why they deleted them, so that the owner can detect the tick of the valve train failing easier!

When I owned my 2021 Ford Ranger, engine covers only came on the Lariat trim level. Covers were available to purchase as they "cleaned up" the engine bay and dampened some noise. The interesting part . . . the cowling design was flawed and allowed water (rain or car wash) to leak into the engine bay and that water traveled to the #1 spark plug, causing the plug to corrode and seize into the cylinder head - A very costly repair. A service bulletin came out and the "remedy" was to add an engine cover!!! I had added a cover to my XLT for no better reason than I liked the way it looked, and in hindsight, it saved me from having the spark plug issue.

I had added a cover to my XLT for no better reason than I liked the way it looked...

I did the same thing with/on Offspring's Honda: I added a trim-dependent engine cover, originally absent on the vehicle, that served to refine the somewhat ungainly appearance of the plastic intake manifold assembly.

It didn't need to be done (as you had to do to protect the #1 spark plug), but the end result looks nice and it does add a humble brag via the i-VTEC decal.
