Back home now after a long day collecting our new toy.

Averaged 24mpg at around 70mph over 200 miles - is this OK?

First Mod will be fitting the Rubicon Front Steel Bumper I purchased a few weeks ago.

Then I'm looking fit bigger Tyres on the stock Wheels & suspension. Looking for a Tyre size that's a little taller & wider - Won't be doing any Hardcore Offroading, just the odd Trail, Beach etc.
Any suggestions????

You’re in United Kingdom, right? It’s weird to see that bumper on a Rubicon. I’m surprised it doesn’t have tow hooks. Still a great looking rig.

I’m guessing it’s the petrol engine. 24 mpg would match my experience. I added steel bumpers a winch and bigger tyres and it dropped to around 21mpg. It’s not great but not terrible either.

The tyres....I have 295/70 17 Toyo Open Country MTs, they suit my needs... usually (but not recently obviously) one or two days a week green laning. There are no issues running this size on your Rubicon with stock wheels/suspension. For usage I think you would be better with an A/T tyre but I didn’t shop for these so I don’t really know what is available in the U.K.. In this category other forum members like the BFG KO2s. I did look at 285/75 17’s (a little taller than the US Rubi spec 280/70 17). I think they would be OK but I can’t confirm that from personal experience. In principle you could probably go as big as 315/70 17’s but you may sruggle to get them fitted on the OE wheels in the U.K. because they are out of spec for the wheel size.

It’s all about pedestrian safety legislation. So a huge plastic bumper and no tow hooks. I ditched mine as soon as I could!

No hi-rise fenders either! Is it illegal to upgrade to them or are manufacturers just not allowed to equip them on new vehicles?

No they’re not illegal but we get smaller OE tyres too soo that makes a difference. The lower ones don’t offend me, actually I think they look better balanced. There are quite a lot of differences. we get 4hi auto, cv joints, narrower axles....
