I've done it both ways, disconnected the negative or used a battery tender. No issues with either way.

Interesting.

I just installed a new H7 AGM battery in October, replacing the original factory battery, and there weren't any untoward issues when the cables were reconnected. Granted, the vehicle wasn't without power for an extended period of time. I removed the existing battery, cleaned the battery tray, installed the new battery and snugged up the cables. Done.
I’d be hesitant to leave the system without power. Just installing a new battery the screen locked up, security code needed, it ended up costing $110 for Jeep to pull it to get the serial # off the back to get the code. Many have no problems, but apparently some do. 🎲🎲
