Anyone done Mottino Wash before and have an opinions/knowledge about it? Looks like it's a fun trail. I'm wondering if it's too cold out there in December and if once the snow hits this weeks it's going to be a no go.

I was thinking maybe checking it out Thanksgiving Weekend 29th or 30th depending on how the weather is looking. I would think the best way to run it would be to start out in Pioneertown, up through Burns Canyon and turn off onto Rattlesnack Canyon to Mottino. From there I imagine you could take Burns the rest of the way to Big Bear OR go back towards JT and out.

Mottino Wash is definitely a challenging trail. May be the hardest trail up in Big Bear. I have only done it once about 3 years ago and went with guys that were definitely experienced and got me through. Be sure to have a winch and recovery gear. The trail should be run from west to east so if you are coming from Pioneertown you should o past the first trail entrance and head towards Johnson Valley and then make the right onto the Mottino Wash trail.

Would you say even harder than Dishpan Springs?

Yes, I think it is overall harder that Dishpan. The middle rock garden is really the only hard part on Dishpan but the whole trail of Mottino is challenging. Mottino is definitely shorter but there is very little just driving to the next obstacle.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it could be a fun trip. I guess I'll keep an eye on the weather and will post if this trip is definitely happening.

A little review for you

This video is actually how I heard about the trail. It's so hard to tell on video how difficult the obstacles actually are. I imagine I would struggle on some of them but would be fun to attempt.

I only watched a part of the video, but I'm not sure if my stocker is ready for this 🙃
Yeah it looks pretty challenging. I may save this one for the spring. Looks like it may be too cold for me out there next weekend.
