At what point is this reinforcement needed when upgrading tire sizes. Mopar says “larger than stock” but I’m just going from the 31” sport tires to the 33” KO2 rubicon tires.

I'm no expert but seeing that the Rubicon comes with 33's I think you'd be safe.

You shouldn't have any issues with a 33-inch tire, and you most likely won't need a relocation bracket either. 35's with a lighter wheel/tire combo can be OK, but anything with a 35 and heavy wheel/tire combo (and higher) should really have the reinforcement/relocation combo added. I've heard the weight limit that requires reinforcement falls somewhere in the 85 or 95 pound range and up.

Just make sure your new tire is hitting the bump stop, even if you have to pick up an extended bump stop. Even a lighter wheel/tire combination if not properly secured, can stress a tailgate if it's bouncing. Hope that helps!

I was also told, unless one is doing some serious off roading, 35s should be ok.

Hmm, on a related note, I am planning on putting a bike rack with two bikes on the tire. So adding 45lbs... They won't be there all the time but I am wondering if the reinforced tailgate is a good idea. Thoughts?

Edit: That's on a Rubicon with 33' tires already.

I am running 33 inch 305/35/20 Nitto Ridge Grappler on a Fuel Lethal wheel...do you think I need to get the reinforcement kit?

I use the Smittybuilt 7721 bracket on my 35s. Well built.
