I wheel with a guy with an old FJ that has a built 6.0 LS that was set up for mud bogs back in the day. He has 15 year old Ground Hawgs? still and old timers gather around in reverence and awe when he pulls up. When he airs down to 8 they are so hard the sidewalls look exactly the same. It sounds wicked coming up a hill behind you. He’s “still shopping for tires”.

It really is wild how folks will hang onto tires like those.

Perhaps with no front locker you won't need to worry about the sensor potting issue.

He’s got a second restored fj for his wife with a mild LS and Milestar Patagonias sooo…🤷‍♂️
Well I mean there are a lot of people stuck in loveless marriages, just kind of sad to see it unfold in front of you like that

I had a JL sport with a rear LSD that got me into wheeling. I even put a front locker on it. And always thought "why didn't I just get a Rubicon". It is a lot of money on upgrades that won't even increase the re-sale value. So at the point when I realized I needed bigger axles I thought it would just be better to let it go and upgrade.

I almost bought a Rubicon. But there was this Willys XR. It was either a non-XR rubi or the XR willys, I went with the Willys hoping I would not regret it.

I don't regret it. I don't have the same "should've gotten a Rubicon" feeling I had when I got the Willys XR.

The willys XR is plenty capable. The gap between the willys and rubicon in terms of performance is very very small. Yeah the front locker will really help in some very tough situations, but with the mechanical rear locker and the electronic BLD technology on the front you will handle the vast majority of situations.

The sway bar disconnect has never been really a sales point for me. It is so easy to manually disconnect, and if you wanna make it even easier you can buy quick discos for less than $200.

Just get the Willys. Most likely you will never need the front locker. The willys can handle bigger tires as it comes with the same axles and gearing as the Rubicon. And if you really want a front locker in the future you can just add it.

If you can, get the XR package.
