Looking for experiences, opinions etc with the Maxxis Trepador. I'm close to picking up a new Willys Sport soon. 2 door, 6 cyl, stick. Having a Mopar 2" installed & want to add 35" x 12.5" x 17" Maxxis Trepadors.
New to this site, THANKS!!!

I've watched what seems like countless Youtube videos with that size tire (not Maxxis) on the Jeep I'm describing all saying that a re-gear isn't necessary. But, that's why I joined this forum is to learn. Thank you!

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Those Trepadors are a no-compromise tire, should be a great choice if you're planning to spend most of your time off road. Way to go all-in! Welcome to the site :)

Struggle I'm seeing is where to buy them???
You think I'd need re-gearing with a 35" er? Just haven't seen or read that. The Willys Sport (axles & stock gears I thought would be fine with 35's). It won't be a daily driver but will be on the road occasionally. I intend this vehicle to be a toy for trail use & some off-road park fun. I'm not a competition rock crawler but want great rubber for the above reasons.....

Most around here that have the 6spd seem to recommend higher gearing for 35s on up, you essentially have a 5 spd without regearing and don't have the real low transfer case gearing of the Rubicon. FWIW I know you want the aggressive tires, might consider Cooper STT Pros, they will be more compliant for on road duty but still a kick ass off road tire and easier on the wallet.

What about Mickey Thompson Baja Boss, the same size? That's my second choice. Your opinion on those? I'm ordering this Jeep soon. I really want a manual & trying to keep the $$$ down of course as it's a toy like I said. If I had to re-gear would that effect the warranty? And how much would I expect to pay for that? Soooo many questions I know. Thanks

For that matter, if I re-geared what stops me at that point from going to a 37"? Besides my wallet that I talked about already :)

So which is which? Both claim to be the Maxxis Trepador 35 x 12.5 x 17. I really prefer the one with the red colored rim over the one with the black rim. How to know?

Bottom one looks like a maxis razr. I've run the razr's in that size on my ram and got 50k miles out of them. Obviously the trepadors would be better off road.

Yep, I want the Trepadors over the RAZR. I'm looking, nothing local here in S. MI that I can find so far.

Since you have a Willys the front diff is an M186 (Dana 30), not really strong enough for heavy 37s even w/ a re-gear if you plan to do some hard wheeling on a regular basis.

If you really want to run 37s w/ some hard wheeling, a Rubcion axle swap should be on your wish list (along w/ about 50% of the non-Rubicon owners around here :) ) The 4:10 Rubicon gears are still pretty high though when mated to the 6spd. Not sure how hard it would be to source a narrow Dana 44 to match your Dana 44 rear, and then do a gear swap on both, at least a 4:88 ratio, possibly lower.

Baja Boss MT would be a good choice, should be a bit better on the road and still very aggressive off road, easier to find too!

Red color rim is the trepador bias ply (rock crawling focused..not for streets)
Black rim color is the trepadors radial(more road focused m/t)
