I see that RCV have the front axles ready for m186 and m210 axles. Has anyone seen anywhere rear chro-mo axles for the m220?

Dana spicer has announced them but you can call jegs, summit, quadratic, and northridge and none of them have any part availability whatsoever

This is interesting. Why would one keep the FAD if they want a more stout design? My understanding is you only lose about a 1/2 mile per gallon if you ditch it. Not being a smart arse here, maybe there is something I dont know...Like:

I still dont get the FAD and how it works. It only disconnects one side right? Isnt the driver side axle still turning?

Correct, but only one side spinning only spins the spider gears so the driveshaft and the whole carrier arent spinning. Less movement less wear and tear and better fuel economy. In theory. I have the full rcvs didnt notice any loss of anything. They only say a little bit more strength from it, but ill take it.

Yeah from the video if I understand it properly the driver side axle still spins but the driveshaft and passenger side does not/

I'd say you got a lot more strength..no? For the price of them 1200-1600 I would hope so. That eats into the price of a whole new axle from dynatrac pretty good. 5k - cost of rcv's minus what you get from your old axle. Still if you dont need the strength of a prorock you save money for sure. Thinking......

From quadratech:

The RCV Performance Ultimate CV Axles for Jeep JL Rubicon Dana 44 with 35 Splineprovide unmatched strength and levelness of ride quality you can feel. RCV 1-piece JL Rubicon 35 Spline ( at the differential for both inner axles) Axle Kits replace the OEM 2-piece axles and FAD coupler with a single shaft. The inner shaft is designed to fit the FAD axle seals, and provide clearance to re-install the FAD module. The FAD will function, but instead of shifting the coupler in the axle, the fork will just move across the inner axle. This does not cause any functionality issues or dash light warnings. RCVs CV Axles eliminate vibration, swaying, and teetering caused by the uneven power delivery of a u-joint axle. The RCV Jeep JL Rubicon CV Axles for Dana 44 with 35 Spline is 18% larger than their previous Dana 44 design and uses their same Dana 60 engineering. The RCV CV Axles provide 6 points of fully-engaged contact throughout any angle up to 45 degrees, providing 100% strength even when the steering is turned to lock. All RCV Axles are backed with a Lifetime Warranty against breakage up to a 43" tire.

Yeah ill eventually change to a pro rock. But having the added strength and warranty on the shafts gives me more confidence. Who knows i might be on this axle forever. Works just fine, when its had its course ill go bigger. Was a cheap investment to me for the added benefit. I cant justify a whole axle swap with a perfectly good working axle. Thats just me though. Other than that i love my rcvs. Smooth as silk

i actually chose to keep the FAD when i upgraded to the RCVs. they warranty both units up to 43" tires, so i can assume the RCV is not worried about their FAD strength. my end goal here is 37s, but at this point, im sure those gears and the driveshafts are the week links in the system. so im not worried about breaking the chromoly version of the FAD and i really like the freespin option it gives for the highway. edit, not for MPG as much as wear and tear on the driveline

I'm starting to think the same thing about keeping it forever. I'm pretty easy on my rig in tech. I'm fine if I cant make an obstacle, and either winch out or take an easy route. Very in control of my ego which is what gets most into trouble. My main concern is housing strength for what I want to do on forest roads an such. Not baja speeds but I do get a tad aggressive and housing/tube strength helps. Is the stock 44s good enough? Time will tell.

I think us/me could be a bit overkill in finding weak points and might be spending money needlessly on bigger axles and upgrades. I think 35s and RCV upgrades are probably fine for a aggressive FS driving. 37's are probably pushing it. I wanna be wrong here.

Yeah they say only 5% weaker and that isnt bad really. You got me thinking. Not sure if the wear is close to being significant but likely there non the less.

Sure wish jeeps had locking hubs.

Hell im on the d30 front with locker, 35s and beadlocks, i dont push it too hard on rock crawling stuff, like you i tend to take it easy on the throttle too in stuck situations. Open roads/ desert though is a different story. But like you said time will tell. Im definitely getting my use out if it and havent been concerned with it. Enjoy it while it lasts lol:like:

i got them slapped in there. outside of the FAD piece being machined to REALLY tight tolerances, everything went in without a hitch.
