People love throwing money at the front axle on these things while doing nothing to address the most common failure point. The FAD housing itself is what breaks. Why anyone would drop $2100 for a less convenient manual FAD that is likely weaker... and retains the failure point of the FAD anyway is beyond me. I tend to run trails in 2wd most of the time until 4wd is needed. Manual hubs would make that really inconvenient.

I added the FAD motor to my 2021 392 JLU about 2 years ago for about $300. I can't see why anyone would spend $2100.00 to accomplish the same thing.
i just bought some 392 axles for my Sport. Do i just need to transfer the FAD motor over to the 392 axle or is there more to it than that?

If yours's came with a FAD motor then all the wiring should be there. Just add the the motor to the 392 axles. My 392 didn't come with wiring so I had to add a toggle switch to control the FAD.

I think if you’ve never had manual locking hubs or it’s been long enough since you’ve had them that you’ve forgotten, you don’t realize, or remember, it could be inconvenient at times.

if i would have known that was an option i would have ordered a front driveshaft during BF. Ive read that due to FAD delete they can experience vibrations with double cardan front driveshaft. Im going to look into transferring it on mine

Yep. Getting out to lock hubs sucks sometimes.

I'm keeping the manual hubs on my CJ for two reasons. First is nostalgia. Second is that nobody makes drive flanges to replace the hubs.

My JL has FAD and I'm too lazy to get rid of it until it stops working.

All my other Jeeps have or will have no ability to unlock anything. The front will always be spinning when the vehicle is moving.

The biggest benefit of being able to unlock the front axle is the lube requirements of the after market front driveshaft CV. It takes me about 2 hours to remove my skid plates and front driveshaft which is required to lube the CV center ball. Tom Woods website states that a good guideline to start with is to grease your drive shaft every oil change. For a lot of people this would be several times a year. If you can stop the front driveshaft from turning while going down the highway this will reduce the lube requirements.
