Lift Questions - Help

Suspension wise my 2020 Willy's is stock (Rubicon Shocks & sport springs). I have a set of Rubicon springs waiting to be installed. The Willy's is rolling on 285/75 17 (almost 34" tires) and I am looking for a 'little more clearance between the tires and fenders.

If I want to keep my Rubi shocks (and i even have an extra set of rubi shocks), i feel my choices are:

a) spring install - how much lift with the rubi springs provide ???

b) spring install and 3/4" spacers all around - however much lift the rubi springs provide would increase by 3/4".

c) spring install and 3/4" spacers in the front and 4/10" (old man emu) spacer in the rear. This would add 3/4" to the front and slightly less than 1/2" to the rear plus whatever the rubi springs would provide.

Since I will be having this installed, I am trying to 'get it right the first time' as most places charge the same to install spacers or springs or a lift kit.

How much lift you get depends on lots of variables. This is true for any lift kit, but it's worse with Rubicon takeoffs, because there is more guesswork.

  • Do you have plastic or steel bumpers?
  • Do you have a winch?
  • Which engine?
  • Hard top or soft?
  • What equipment came on the donor Rubicon?
  • What set of springs did you actually get?
I had a heavy steel front bumper and winch on a 4-door with the 3.6L. I used additional 3/4" spacers up front, and the overall lift I got was something like 1.5". It might have been enough to run taller tires, but I never did. The goal of that lift was just to get the front end back up after the bumper/winch sag, which it achieved. (When I went to 315/70R17s later on, I did a 2.5" spring lift and changed the front fender flares.)

  • What set of springs did you actually get?

68253658AD Drivers Front
68253659AD Passengers Front
68253587AA Drivers. Rear

New Rubicon Springs:
68253662 Passengers Front
68253592 Passengers Rear
68253591 Drivers Rear


The last spring is missing it's tag:
it is slightly shorter than the 68253662. This leads me to believe it is a:
68253661 Drivers Front

I can't tell you how much lift you're going to get, but it will be more than I got. Less weight up front, and you went up more steps on the springs. I'd say you will probably end up with enough lift without spacers, and you should probably consider longer front lower control arms, to correct caster.

I installed the longer front lower control arms from the Mopar lift, which are available as a separate part for I'm thinking like $35 each.

Thanks, I probably should have mentioned it in the original post, but yes, I am planning on using those MOPAR LCAs when this is done. When you installed the rubi springs, how much lift did you get?

I have heavy aftermarket steel bumpers and a winch, and the set of springs I got only went up by one in the front and two in the back. I honestly forgot to measure where things were stock, and again where things were just before the lift, so I don't really know for sure how much I got. I estimate about one inch.

Whatever I got, you will get more. Plastic bumpers, no winch, your springs went up by two in the front and three in the back. You will have a lot more spring lifting action. I don't know how much I got, so I can't guess how much you will get. I think I could have run 35s on my original lift, as long as I didn't plan to do anything too crazy off-road.

Based on the fact that your Jeep is lighter, with taller springs, and you are trying to run smaller tires than mine, I think you should probably have plenty of clearance on your chosen setup. But this stuff is far from an exact science, and even if it was, my failure to take measurements before making changes proves that I am a crappy scientist anyway. ?
