I was planning on 5.13 (with the 2.0) and my off-road shop talked me into 4.88's. I think it was truly a toss up but the gears are slightly stronger than the 5.13.

I am going to do a thread on the upgrades/ refresh of my Jeep soon. I am just too busy to do it right now.with our upcoming cross country move on Saturday.Congrats!! Pics/Videos?
What about keeping my 35's and moving from 4.56 to 4.88 to handle the extra weight I am carrying with accessories? Seems like my 3.6 auto (at 4200ft that I live) likes to now shift out of 8th to 7th more often now that I have added more weight. (I'm not towing). Would I regret not going to 5.13 if I add 37 in the future? Should I just wait til I go to 37 and get the 5.13? This is my daily driver. There is less than 100 rpm difference between 4.88 and 5.13 gears on the highway. Also, if you know somebody with 4.88 and 35's take a ride in it and see what you think. Keep in mind that 37's and 5.13 would be pretty similar to 4.88 and 35's.
In the end, I would go with the gear that works the best for most of the driving you will be doing.....which sounds like empty driving. I wouldn't pick the gearing based on something you don't do very much.
I would like to get your opinion below. I asked the same question to 6.2Blazer on this thread.I have towed campers, 88,000+ miles with a 3.6 on 37s with 5.13 gears. The Jeep had a 153,000 miles on it when I did a hemi swap last week.
I think 5.13 gears are the sweet spot if you are towing or just in general with a Jeep on 37s. It runs about 2100 rpms at 70 mph.
This camper was towed about 54,000 miles.
