My wonderful 2021 JLU is running on her original tires and they are worn. I have put money aside and it is time for my girl to get some new shoes, something a little more capable.

I know what size I want, 285-70R17, and I will be running them on the stock steel rims. I have also had some very deep conversations with myself about what I will be doing with Jolene, and my days of really hard trails I think are behind me. She is my DD and I am a little wiser these days. Yes I want to do trails and some light crawling, but my days of saying...."Hold my beer!" are behind me.

So having said all that, I am leaning away from MT's and more towards an AT or RT tire. The question is, do you all have any recommendations? (HA HA, I know the can of worms I just opened.)

I have been online scanning and have found some good options. The Goodyear Wrangler Territory RT and the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT have started to become my top picks, but I see things like Radar Renegade RT and think....are there other options on there I should look at.

Let me know what you suggest....God what have I done!

I ran Falken Rubitrek AT's in that size on my stock Moab rims and loved them. Good looks, great in all weather and no noise/feedback whatsoever. Only changed cos I went up to 35's.

For what you are saying, go with the K02. We've had a lot of AT and MT on our numerous Jeeps. I would put the K02 as my favorite all around so far after a lot of experiences. 2nd would be the Falken AT4w and 3rd Mickey Thompson AT. I honestly thought I'd like the Mickey Thompson more than I did.

Why is the K02 my number 1? Balanced performance across all conditions. It’s not the best at any single category, but it’s consistently extremely good at all of them.
  • Excellent on-road manners (quiet, stable, predictable)
  • Strong wet traction (especially for an A/T)
  • Snow-rated (3PMSF)
  • Very capable on trails and rocks
  • Long tread life
The K02 is lighter than most of the others by 5-7 pounds per tire which is a pretty big difference, but still one of the more durable.

The Baja Boss is heavier, noisier and less fuel without a huge bump in performance off-road.

The goodyears have very soft sidewalls and will wear poorly.

Radar Renegade RT are cheap, but heavy, noisy and not great in wet conditions. They also don't balance well based on feedback from others.

✌🏼

I swear I have had most popular tires ie coopers, toyos, falkens, BFG, goodyears some I have forgotten and I will never buy something like a Radar or similar brand tire....my favs right now are Mickey T's BB in at's and mt's.

Take a look at the Toyo Open Country RT Trail. We have a set on our Gladiator that I have been very happy with. They are smooth and roll easily on the highway but work really well off road.

Just switched to KO3 from the OEM Firestone M/T. I can use my Bluetooth calling again and the tires are wicked good in snow. The difference is astonishing even from when the original tires were new.

You can't go wrong with the K02 or K03's for your purposes I think. I had them and really liked them for the combination of on-road/off-road driving. They're quiet, durable, and still have good off road performance. I didn't have good experience in sticky mud back in the midwest but I live in the desert and am in rocks, sand, and snow and had no issues. I just replaced them and went up from 285/70/17 to MT Baja Boss 315/70/17's. So far I really like them but haven't been in the rocks or snow yet. (I just got them 2 days ago.) They are a little louder but not much. I do think they're heavier. We'll see what happens to gas mileage. I didn't buy it for gas mileage, so whatever. LOL

These. I have them on my ZR2. 20,000 miles deep now. Have run wildpeak, duratrac, and ko2. Will put the rt trail on everything from now on.
