Just completed building my rear interior sleeping platform and rear storage rack. Total cost to build less than $30.For the sleeping platform I got the 3/4” Treated 8x4 Plywood free, free cushioning and spent $27.98 at Lowe’s for the platform covering. To build the storage rack I cut up angle iron from an old food kitchen shelf which happen to have preslotted holes. I got the 1/2” plywood free, free cushioning, free covering and spent $1.60 for 4 bolts at the hardware store. Anyone have ideas about a DIY overhead radio mount system or rifle rack?

Looks like your feet might get a little cramped having them under the platform that holds your gear. Aside form that, NICE JOB!

Hello, yeah the space is between the platform and storage is 8” so my next mod to mitigate the issue is to raise the rack an additional 3” using a 2x4 cut to fit the area around the roll bar. So the vents were simply made from a piece of plastic rain gutter which I purchased from Home Depot. There is a video on Cheaper Jeepers detailing cuts and installation. Do you all have any jacks on building an overhead coms setup in the front cabin area?

Ok so I noted everyone’s suggestions and realized that all were valid points. Today I cut 2”s off the sleeping platform frame effectively lowering the system. I also raised the rear storage rack 1.5” and replaced the 1/4” plywood with a stronger 3/4” plywood, also bolting the plywood to the rails. Additionally I acquired a very strong netting that covers the equipment on the rack. The netting clips into place underneath the rack from rear to front. One last measure was using heavy duty adjustable straps as backup to secure the equipment even better.

By lowering the platform and raising the rack I went from 8”s of space between the rack and platform to 11.5”s of space
