I took off my doors for the first time last week to learn the process. I had not built my rack yet so I laid down moving pads in my garage. It takes up a sizable foot print with 4 doors and two rear panels (I have the SOT top). Step one roll down the windows before you disconnect the 4 wiring harnesses. You will need to get up close and personal with the doors. Take the pocket knife out of your pocket. You know what else scratches the door? That tiny rivet on your Levi jeans. Wear a longer shirt, put tape over the rivet or do this in the nude. I wouldn't try this after several beers. Also don't put on Armor All or the equivalent right before you need the grip strength.
Put a piece of thin cardboard between the ratchet and your doors to prevent scratches when removing or installing the door pin pins.
I made a rack out of PVC and this worked very well at the beach. I would suggest laying down a moving pad under the rack. When you lift the door off the rack one side can dip down and kiss the cement. I think I will buy the guide pins to make the install easier.
If you are driving with the doors off and you stop to pull out someone who is stuck, remember the unlock button for the rear door is on your door, back at camp. However you do have the remote in your pocket.
Backing our of my driveway with no doors was a challenge with only the one rear view mirror. I just received my CMM mirrors for the next time.
Overall 20 minutes or less taking your time.
