The Forester is the same spec as the US version. The difference is that with less tongue weight and lower speeds, the tow rating can be higher. Also has to do with oscillations and such, add explained in the article I linked.

I DID note that the Defender is actually rated higher in the US than Europe, which is unusual. I found this because I questioned whether the reporting was perhaps accidentally citing the Euro rating.
