Jeep TJ help

Hey everyone just picked up a jeep tj rubicon 2006 but it has rough idle but cleans up between 1000-2500 rpm then it hit what feel like a rev limiter but I can’t tell what it is it. I saw that someone installed a throttle body spacer on it maybe that’s the issue? Feel like an electrical problem maybe a dirty throttle body? Bad map sensor any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

First off, we need pics of this TJ. Second, this is a JL specific forum. Third, do not ever install a throttle body spacer on anything. Forth, couldn’t hurt to give the throttle body and MAF sensor a good cleaning. Also consider new spark plugs, air filter etc. Good luck

Check engine light is then starts to flash. I know it’s a jl forum I also have a jl just figured you guys could help me out here also ! Has a snorkel also installed

Does it have an automatic transmission? Any misfire codes? P0300, 301, 302 etc? Any codes related to Ignition Coils P2302, 2305, 2308?
Went thru something with my '05 TJ, post all stored and pending codes and I can tell you exactly where to look for the chafed wire that is causing the problem

Yea it’s an auto transmission I don’t have a code reader any ones off Amazon ? If so could you send me the model going to try to figure it out on my own if I can

Check to see if the distributor is loose or needs replaced.

Jeep TJ codes (1997-2006) without a scanner by cycling the key from OFF to ON three times, ending in the ON position, quickly, without cranking the engine; the codes will appear on the odometer, followed by "done," revealing issues like sensor failures (e.g., P0128 for coolant temp) or even just battery disconnects (P1212).

Chase the P0340 first. Cam position sensor.

P0300(M) Multiple Cylinder Misfire, Misfire detected in multiple cylinders.
P0161(M) 2/2 02 Sensor Heater Failure Oxygen sensor heater element malfunction.
P0152(M) 2/1 02 Sensor Shorted To Voltage Oxygen sensor input voltage sustained above normal operating range
P0340(M) No Cam Signal At PCM No fuel sync

I would suggest a careful inspection of the wiring harness, paying close attention to the area at the right rear of the engine where the cylinder head meets the block. I think you will find damaged wires from chaffing on the engine block. I would get you a photo of the area but I no longer own the TJ.

Changed to cam position sensor fought a plug on the back on the alternator was loss, don’t know which help but is running better. I was under the jeep and noticed one of the upper bank oxygen señor was extremely loss tighten it up also. Everything has see to help. Some has taken the cats out of the jeep so the lower banks sensor are u plugged going to a junkyard to try to find an original exhaust thanks you for the help so far ! Will keep you updated
