This is the rear of the front differential. I looked at a few other Jeeps on the dealer lot and the transfer case is completely black on the other Jeeps. On mine there is this clay colored section. Unsure why.

Well dang, now I've got to go out and get under my Sahara. That does look strange. It looks like it would slid back, but that wouldn't be right at all.

It's actually the differential, not the transfer case. Could be rust, though it doesn't wipe off easily.

Almost looks like some material left over from the sand casting process of the differential.

it's doesn't seem to be the mark of Beast or anything of more serious nature , I wouldn't worry about it, the warranty is 3 years long
