Dealerships buy JLU Sports with no options, load them up with the absolute shittiest and cheapest stuff they can find - a 4" Rough Country lift, off brand 37" tires on off brand wheels, Smittybilt bumpers and rails/steps, shitty halogen lights all over, a snorkel, etc. and then charge something ridiculous like $75K for them. I see this all over and just wonder who TF buys these things from them. It must be a lot of people because it's so common.

We have a local dealer that does plenty of aftermarket lifts from mopar lifts to full blown metalcloak and such. Haven't seen an RC lift from them, they also use the usual wheels like fuel, AEV, etc and tires from Nitto and other common brands.

They do charge dealership prices as expected but they also back up their products and work that they do when needed. I didn't buy one but have had them do a few things on my rig as they have a dedicated tech for aftermarket installs.

There's a sucker born every minute. There's always someone who doesn't know what they want, don't know how to make it happen but wants the cool rig anyway. So the dealer is gouging them for it with cheap parts and the finance companies are taking their share as well.
Someone obviously does buy it, so can you blame them for selling it?

OP, where are you in the USA that we can make relevant comparisons here?

What's common in one place might be unseen somewhere else. E.g., my selling dealer tends to limit their factory-ordered lot stock to well-equipped Rubicons, with the occasional Willys or Sahara making an appearance. I've not seen a single Wrangler that would match in any manner what you describe.

I knew straightaway that I'd have to order my Sport, since that trim is otherwise absent from both of the CDJR dealers within driving distance from my place.

There is a local dealer that does this occasionally but I really don’t know how good the parts are, I never looked too closely. They do get a good price but it is all under warranty. Most of their inventory seems to be all well equipped.

The local Ford place did this with a Bronco. Charged an arm and a leg for crappy upgrades to make a Sasquatch clone. The dealer I bought my Jeep from said they liked selling stripped down models so people could do their own upgrades. My Rubicon came with proximity key as the only option. I was thrilled at the price, this was 2020.

Then displayed them prominently on their mound. My favorite was the “Rubicon tire and wheel package” , using pull off’s ya think ? They are no longer doing it since they can only inventory 4Xe’s.

This is really common everywhere. Many dealerships do this because honestly most Jeep buyers don’t know anything about modding, only what they think looks good. There’s no point in buying more expensive top quality parts when they can slap on cheaper junk parts and still charge a premium, increasing their profit margins.

Local dealer has one (Gladiator Sport) on the floor. It's been sitting there for months. No takers. That said, stock Mojaves, Rubicons, and Sports have also been sitting.

Usually around my area, I see more pickups with those types of dealer "improvements" than Wranglers with the same or similar, but then some dealers pull this shit too ?

Willys 4xe, that stickers at $64,510 with no mention of what they actually did to it to make it into a $92k one...not even on their website.

Does it look like it's worth $28k more than what it was? ?

Super common here. The dealers send them to 4 Wheel Parts where they install bottom level components to give it the look they want. Then they mark the price up $20-25K for $5k worth of mods.

A great many vehicles are sold on emotion, and dealers know this. They want that customer who can't get it out of their head. The customer they want knows nothing about lifts, tires or even vehicles in general. I guarantee if you walk in and and started picking it apart to a salesman, they would just walk away. They never want an educated customer.
