So I’ve posted a few times trying to fix my intermittent CarPlay connectivity issues. Changed cables, phones, where i plug in and software versions.
Took to my dealership for an oil change and explained the issue. He said they’d get their expert to look at it.
“Expert” suggested that I change the media hub (usb ports on dash), quoted me over $400. Yeah, that’s ridiculous. Then added that if that didn’t work then they suggested changing the head unit. For $750.
So you don’t actually know what’s going on, you are just going to keep chainging things up the line at my expense.
I told them to forget it and “just” paid $190 for the “experts” time. And no fix. So happy with that
Decided to fit a new media hub ($40!) myself and see if that helped.
When I unplugged the old hub I noticed the two USB style cables that plug in the back of it (which I assume are the bus) had corroded and dirty connectors inside.
$12 can of electrical contact cleaner, some Q Tips and toothpicks later and all the contacts are clean and CarPlay works 100% flawlessly!
Hope this helps someone fix theirs. So much for the Expert!
