Can someone please explain to me the reason for an inner fender liner? Are they really needed? If so, what is a good set for a diesel 2022 Rubicon JL? Any and all information is appreciated.
They hide quite a bit of guts. Best reason they are there for me is to keep debris and whatnot out of the engine bay a bit and protect the Jeep's jigglybits. I have Metalcloak, but I have their fenders as well. I went through three sets on my JKUR as they rattled. So far, no noises from the MCs.
There's a video series of a guy debugging intermittent canbus errors. There was more than one problem, but one issue was traced to missing liners that exposed a connector on the passenger side to water and debris. Avoiding that snarky debug problem alone is worth keeping the liners.
I think the above posts cover the reasons to run them. I have a diesel and I went with American Adventure Labs and absolutely love them. They go on and come off in seconds making maintenance super simple. They are very high quality. I did not get the diesel specific liners as I relocated my washer reservoir and went with the gas version liners. If you aren't going to go above a 38" tire I would just get the diesel liners.
