It's easy to damage bearings when you pull them. I never reuse bearings when I do a new gear set, even when I use a quality bearing puller.

A bearing that is damaged or just not seated correctly can result in backlash problems like this. How did you remove the old bearings? How did you install them?
The only bearing I pulled was the inner pinion. I used a clam shell puller and a press to put it on. I'm confident in saying it's not damaged.

Just as an update checked the run out of the carrier I was getting about .002. Anyway Eastcoast gear refunded me for the Yukon assuming thats the problem. Northridge had a Dana in stock hopefully will go smooth from here.

Reading this late but there's a step that isn't often noted in a lot of instructions and tutorials. Flat filing the mating surface of the ring gear. There could be a small burr or imperfection that is giving you different backlash in different spots.

I did that. Actually went back and did it again just to be sure.

This ^. Filing the mating surface works, or, as I was trained years ago, use a whetstone (for sharpening knives, etc.) and run it over the mating surface. Either way will remove machining and mounting hole tap burrs, leaving a perfectly smooth surface.

I'm surprised the Yukon set was an issue. That's all we used for years. I read Revolution Gear is the new standard, but haven't any experience with them.

I've seen runout this bad on a Yukon ring gear. Their stuff really is trash these days. Spicer or Revolution is the only way to go.
