3.6 Etorque. I was doing some cable fishing from the firewall under the the master cylinder towards the front of the Jeep when I hear a plastic piece hit the garage floor. It's roughly an inch square and is marked "CAV 3". It seems to be whole and intact.

I probably knocked it off with my hand or arm and it came from the area where the brake control unit, intermediate steering column, and a whole bunch of ?cooling? lines live. Here's what it looks like.

It looks like a part that has minimal function but there must be some value to it otherwise MOPAR wouldn't take the trouble to make it.
I searched the MOPARonlineparts.com and there are some hits but I didn't see any from this area... maybe windshield wiper related. What's it for and more importantly, where is it supposed to fit?

Thanks in advance,

John

Hi,
I am sorry I have never seen that part before and cannot locate in our data. I would need more information, Perhaps alternate stamping numbers?

Thanks for taking a look Benny.
There are no additional markings.
I’ve visually scoured the area where my arm was when it fell out. Various brackets have matching material but no luck finding a matching attachment location so I’ll just go without using it.

Honestly upon first viewing the part, It does not look to be automotive grade. It appears to be some type of end cap cover or similar. Perhaps it came from somewhere else?

Perhaps it did come from somewhere else. At the time it fell from the engine bay adjacent just forward of the master cylinder and engine coolant reservoir, the jeep had less than 90 miles on it and hadn't been worked on since taking delivery. So odds are that it was there from the factory (I don't know why the dealer would be doing anything in there - maybe checking fluid levels - if so, they missed the wiper fluid level because it took over a quart).

It's the same type/finish of plastic as the bracket holding the engine coolant line going to/from the reservoir.
I hate to have a new vehicle with parts falling off - no matter how insignificant they seem to be.
Maybe it's some sacrificial part used in the course of assembly.

It goes under your positive main battery connection!! I recognized the piece while randomly watching a video on YouTube!

Go here to 4:43 in and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Mystery solved!
Thanks much rohdawg - I appreciate your help.
I can return it to its proper home.

It must have been set somewhere in the engine bay during dealer prep and fallen onto some snag on the driver side of the engine bay where I knocked it loose and onto the garage floor.
