Hi all. I just brought not only my first Jeep but my first Hybrid. 2024 Wrangler Unlimited 4Xe. Is it normal for the charge to drop so much.? I drive 2.8 miles to work and it drops 10%. No air running or anything. The dealer said to just leave it on hybrid so I haven't touched anything. Otherwise absolutely love it! Thanks for any advice or tips.

Welcome! :) I myself am new to Jeep and electric vehicles and Jersey native!

My dealer said the same, and I will admit I find that hybrid is the most efficient mode and will end up being your most used (unless you opt for electric for your daily commute). I have only filled my tank up twice since pick up by having hybrid be my main mode, but others have gone a month without needing to fill. I am averaging upwards of 40 mpg with hybrid and that is a lovely thing to say.

I was a little shocked at the charge dropping as well, but I have come to find out, from both my own experience the last 3 weeks, as well as reading on forums, that the your electric range will truly depend on the conditions you're driving in and the situations you find yourself in. Even when showing >1% of battery, the car will always be drawing power to the battery, even if it is not displaying it. One realization I finally accepted is that I will use up the battery during a daily commute to and from work. It is inevitable.

But the next most important: It is a hybrid, not an EV, not an ICE... a hybrid.

I use electric for my errands on Sunday, which has me traveling about my town, so this way I don't waste fuel and keep my tank full for longer. I have yet to commute one electric only, but am probably going to give it ago Thursday or Friday.

E-Save is very... touchy. It is the worst for fuel economy, and will be murder on your MPG. However, it does have its use(s). There are two modes, Save and Charge. Save will store the battery for later, and mainly use the ICE and your gas. Charge will do the same, but will draw more power out of your engine to regenerate the battery. However, both modes will still draw power from the battery and the ICE. Again, it is a hybrid.

Daily charging is a must, and if you can swing it, get a level 2 home charger (I will eventually do this, but luckily there are free ChargePoint stations by my residence).

Otherwise, I am in the same boat as you; loving the Jeep immensely and love learning more and sharing my first experiences as well as hearing about them!

Thanks for the wealth of information! I really went into this completely blind I must say. I was planning on getting just a regular Wrangler but the dealer suggested the 4XE after our conversations about what my plans are as far as commuting and other trips. I'm sure he had other ulterior motives in mind but I figured why not?
I just got the jeep 5 days ago and I had to charge twice already. On the plus side even though I have it on hybrid, the app shows 0 gas used so far. It's just something I need to adjust to. But other than the "charge" surprise I love it.
Unfortunately I live in an apartment so I can only use the "extension cord out the window" routine. LOL
Now to find a storage place for the soft top setup which they gave me also.
Thanks again!

Yeah, my original plan was a 2024 Willys, but with the incentives offered and the projected cost, the Sport S 4xE was more realistic in terms of monthly payments. Not to mention, unlike the gas powered Sport S models, we actually get the JL refresh facelift.

And you opted for the dual top group? Almost went with that (live in an 2 family home) and really don't have storage for the hardtop, but my folks said they will let me use their garage (not far from me, same county).

I charge everyday after work. Luckily the ChargePoint stations are located in a park, so I just read a book, walk around or wipe down my car to pass the time. Also worth noting, I noticed when I went to sit in my Jeep during my break earlier... the gas range went up about 7 miles while I sat there... but that could be an error for all I know.

The ONLY thing I did not get on the Jeep, which I am slightly bummed about was the LED light package. The halogens aren't THAT bad, but I would have preferred the LEDs... so now I am currently going to get Beamtech H13's until I can swing getting full on replacement LED's.

I just took what they gave me. LOL I went to pick it up and there was all these boxes in the back seat. I was like WTH? He told me it was the soft top setup . According to the window sticker I've got LED lights. I'm still trying to figure it all out. Every time I get into the jeep I find something new. I haven't figured out what the buttons are for on the underside of the steering wheel.

Them sexy packages tho! Haha.

Those buttons are for volume controll (right side) and track selection (left side). There are two... middle nubs (idk how else to put it) that I believe are for changing your audio source (Android Auto/Apple CarPlay to FM to Sirius) but i am not 100% because I always have my Android Auto up more often than not, and that takes screen priority by default, so I would have to sit down and take a look.

100% ÷ 22 miles = about 4.5% per mile

The top of the 100% tends to go quicker.

That said, depending on driving conditions etc, things play out differently.

A skateboard is a great way to get to and from public chargers, if you don't have a charger at home/work.

Unfortunately the charging stations at work are all broke. Go RU!! LOL I'm fortunate my commute to work is so close. On my previous vehicle a regular little Buick Encore I filled up the tank once a month. Looks like I can beat that with the 4XE. Still happy with the lease and after 2 years I'll probably keep it.

Yea, public chargers are prone to abuse and vandalism, and they are very expensive to repair, so it seems companies get subsidies to install them, then when they are damaged they just don't bother fixing them, no reason to, and less headache, unless maybe if one if the decision makers use the charger.

So, I did my first electric only drive (kicked it in once I hit the highway) to work.
Jeep Wrangler JL How long should a charge last? electric

The commute is said by Google maps to be 9.8 miles. I started at a 98% charge with the Jeep App telling me I had 27.3 miles for electric range. After merging on the highway, I switched into Electric after a minute or two. Went from 98% down to 66% with a remaining electric range of 18 miles.

Perfect reasoning to now drive to work in electric mode exclusively. The only downside is getting home on hybrid last night (it mostly stayed in electric for the trip back as the ICE wasn't needed much), I was at about 25% battery, and with the ChargePoint station I was sitting there for about two hours and didn't really get home until 7:15. Small price to pay, but I think today, I am going to drive in E-Save on the way home, charge up to 100% and then fill the car in the morning.

Don't waste your gas on esave. Just drive electric until the Jeep switches you to hybrid (if you drive that much in a day) then plug in overnight.
Longer trips, just run hybrid.
The only time e-save is awesome is if you desperately want to keep full electric available for your destination (like a long drive to the trail). Full power and torque will always be available regardless of the HV battery's displayed state of charge.

According to my app the range for Electric is only 17.4 miles. But for me right now that's ok. 2.8 miles to work. 5.6 round trip. And still no gas being used. The dealer said leave it on hybrid so I'll stick to that.

Some people are able to squeeze more range out of the 4xe beyond the 21 miles.

It depends on speed etc, I typically get 21+, but I'm driving in the city core stop and go, I can get a few more miles when on longer trips outside of the city core where traffic is moving and the speed is a little higher.

High speeds will use more battery, keeping speeds around 45-55 mph can get you better mileage.

You should be able to easily do a 20 mile round trip, I do a 18 mile round trip(no highway) a few times a month, on those round trips I would have about 10-15% battery left.

I'm squeezing about 30 miles but that's being very light on the throttle. Usually keeping in the 25% zone of electric use when throttling it. This is mainly with the radio running only... I also leave REGEN on 100% of the time and throttle manage my braking.
