I need to be able to tow behind the motorhome this month, so I built my own base plate. It bolts through existing holes in the frame and is constructed from solid 3/8" steel plate with a 2" square tube crossbar (1/4" wall tube). The pics are self explanatory. The side plates are direct bolt, solid steel (not relying on any weld to take the strain). Simpler is better!
Building your own is pretty cheap....I spent $14 at the steel outlet. There is a pic of it after paint, on the saw horses so you can see how it is made. The front bumper is the Barricade $269 unit that makes easy access to the frame holes I used. I see there are some base plates available, but the price of one is 1/2 the cost of my Miller 211 welder. I'd rather own the welder and build my own base plate. As an added feature, that heavy cross bar is nice protection for my front sway bar disconnect components.....definitely worth the $14.
