Hey Bob, Rugged Ridge is now advertising the same wiring harness as fitting JK and JL, so hopefully that will work for us. I'll wait a week or two and keep an eye on Quadratec, hopefully order the hitch and wiring before new Rubicon arrives

Watching this for updates. Didn’t order tow package, hoping to add aftermarket. Added a Rugged Ridge receiver hitch to my ‘11 JKU.

The OEM hitches are available for order, now. Problem I have is that they are only a Class II. I'd like to have a Class III. Hope the aftermarket hurries...I need one soon.

Plus, the OEM 7/4 pin plug harness isn't available yet. Need that, too. I want to try and make it as factory looking as possible.

Etrailer.com has just listed the Curt Class III hitch as being compatible with the Wrangler JL.
https://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2018_Jeep_JL+Wrangler+Unlimited.htm

When you factor in shipping, I found it to be cheaper on Amazon prime if you have that.

Now we just need the 7 pin harness.

Why would you put a class 3 when the max tow capacity is 3500lbs

Hey, thanks for this. Here’s my problem, though...even though it lists the hitch as a Class III, it lists specs for a Class II (i.e. - 350 lb tongue weight and 3,500 lbs max tow). I guess they are covering their a$$...I guess.

Yeah, yeah...I choose to break the rules, I guess. Look, I realize that this vehicle is limited to 3,500 lbs, but that is bs, in my eyes. I’ll compare this Wrangler to my ‘16 Tacoma. The Wrangler has more HP, more torque, lower gears, and even bigger brakes. The Tacoma has a longer wheelbase. Yet, the Tacoma has a 6,500 lb max tow rating! From what I can find, it’s all about what the vehicle can stop, not pull. I tow the boat 2 miles from the storage garage to the ramp. Twice a year, I tow it to town for servicing...25 miles each way. It never gets towed more than that. My boat trailer has its own brakes, so I feel confident that the Wrangler can handle the job. Boat and trailer weigh 4,500 lbs combined.

I figure the least I can do is put a Class III hitch on it, instead of a Class II.

Review of the Curt Manufacturing website indicates they have not yet designed a receiver hitch to fit the Wrangler JL. The eTrailer advertisement lists Curt PN 13432, which is the Curt hitch designed for a Wrangler JK. Very likely, Curt has yet to finish their qualification testing to ensure their PN 13432 hitch is 100% compatible. My issue, eTrailer might have taken it upon themselves to prematurely advertise the Curt hitch PN 13432 as being tested and compatible. None of this likely matters, but I am planning to wait for Curt Manufacturing to place their endorsement on their product.

Do you know the difference between 13432 and 9883544?

LOL...$10.76 JK (just kidding)

Note: eTrailer has listed both PNs as being compatible. Neither of those two PNs are listed by Curt Manufacturing as being JL compatible. Very likely Curt will do so very shortly, but for now, their website does not indicate compatibility. Last night, I sent an email to Curt asking when they would release a design for use on the JL. I will follow up on this thread with their pending response.

I found an answer in eTrailer's FAQ: "The Curt # 13432 and the # 9883544 are the same exact hitch. We got a significant volume discount on that hitch from Curt, and are selling the discounted hitch under a different part number."

If you look on the etrailer site, the hitch is listed as 450 lbs weight distributing tongue weight/ 4500 lbs weight distributing tow weight. The hitch can physically take the weight. I ordered the hitch from Amazon.

I also plan to tow a 4500 lb boat with my wrangler. I have a Ram 1500, as well as a Class C motorhome to use for longer trips, but it sure would be fun to tow with the top off in the summer. I plan to keep my jeep mostly stock, and I expect to have no problems.

I have towed with my previous Wrangler JK two door. It had plenty of power but handling was terrible due to the short wheelbase. The JL 4 door should be much better.

I also see where the 7 pin wiring is up for sale. 82215398AB is the part number for the JL 7/4 pin wiring harness. There are some listed on ebay, google, and I am sure your local dealer can get them as well.

This is my thought EXACTLY!!

This is good to know(!)...I was wondering if I was crazy the way others tend to preach to me for this idea.

Is this really the wiring harness part number? This is the first I've heard. The 7/4 pin plug by itself is part number 56055632AC. What parts are included in 82215398AB? Seems like its around ~$200 online. We still need the mounting bracket that the 7/4 pin mounts to...unless the part number you listed includes all the necessary parts...?

Check out the picture at https://www.ebay.com/itm/2018-JEEP-...332565386889?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10

Everything looks to be included, even the bracket. I ordered this, if it is not like what is in the picture, I will send it back. If you search this part number on Google, several come up on Mopar parts sites for various dealers.
