What about some sort of hardtop inside ceiling rig in the rear cargo area? People mount axes and firearms on the roll cage up there.

I figured as much @Mark. Thanks. I didn't conflate your offering of solution with endorsement (or criticism) of same. :)

...so I can understand your vision, you propose some mechanism by which detached Freedom Panels can adhere to the inside ceiling of the back portion of the (by definition, not removed) hard top, correct?

Sounds interesting if so.

Here's where I'd go with that....maybe....

Topsy Products http://topsyproducts.com/products/hinge_hook_hoist_bracket has, IMHO, a wonderful product for lifting the rear of the hard top (for removal) that obviates the need to have to deal with the rear and fragile window glass.

I mention this product not for desire to remove the rear of the hard top that by definition would remain stationary on the rig in this idea of yours, but because the product uses the 2 bolts that hold down each of the rear window's hinges, and it is from this bolt location that I might attached light weight but strong metal brackets that extend to the Sports Bar under which the detached Freedom Panels could be secured.

I just ordered these for their express indication. I wonder if reversing them would facilitate attachment points for the securing mechanism described above.

And that people is how a DIY gets done: minds collaborating.

:)

I just ordered a set of the Topsy hooks to so I could mod my Lange hoist.

Interesting. Mounting panels inside the rear of the hardtop on the ceiling...need to go check how much room there is up there, roll cage and all.

A few months back, while juggling the 3.14 or so ongoing inventions for the Wrangler in my head, while eating pi (trailing "e" deliberately removed0), I had thought of making, using the equivalent of heavy duty cabinet drawer sides, or woodworker's "C" channel, a way to push the Freedom Panels back, over the back panel and lock them in place that way.

The limited number of places to attach the hardware to on the panels, combined with the known fact that Bestop would release its Sunrider product for the JL (for which I am a happy customer) and better address open air in front issues, back burnered that project.:)
If it ever returns to the front burner. . . what about a roof rack over the rear hardtop that allows the two freedom panels to be fastened to them using the same kind of clamps used in their normal position? Skip the hardware / glides, just provide a simple, solid mount to hold 'em outside the cabin but not obstructing the view. Ok, just a thought. . .

...and it wouldn't be hard Al..just, I'm afraid subject to the exposure, somewhat, but not a lot, of the interior of the Freedom Panels to the elements, presumptively stores with the entire side closest to the top of the back of the hard top.

Nothing a waterproof bag couldn't handle. Then again...if it's raining, I think one best not leave their Freedom Panels on the roof rack;)

Nice.:)

They're not freedom panel specific, but if you're simply putting them on the outside of the roof, a readily available rack should do.

HiJinx69 just posted this on another thread.
Jeep Wrangler JL Hitch Based Freedom Top Holder img_4871-

And a link to the rack he has: Link $120
According to their site its interior dimensions are 45.5 x 41, which should be be enough to hold freedom panels.
