I went a head and swapped out the halogen factory tail lights on the 2025 JL Willys today. Went with the Morimoto XBs low profile with the Red Lens. I went with Morimoto mostly for the quality, and wanted the LEDs, as it was an easy switch out for a little extra brightness. Threw in a ring brake light under the spare, and some Luminex yellow film over the factor front fogs for good measure (front came all LED from the factory). Since the driver taillight was coming off, I also installed the Jeep fuel door and ignition-keyed locking gas cap while I was in there.
The Morimotos were just plug and play.... I did not add the resistors, and figured I would just change the Jeep settings using JScan tomorrow.
I drove it around tonight, and there was no flickering and no warning lights on the dash. I guess I should still hook up the JScan (for the first time) and change the settings still??? Everything does seem to be working OK though. Is the setting change totally necessary? Just wondering.
I did swap to LED headlights and taillights on the 2013 JK in the past, and they just worked fine, but I don't remember if they had built in resistors or something like that.
PS - I also got the Morimoto Back Up light bar the goes over the license plate, but I'll likely return it. There is metal in a ton of spots under the factor plate area, and you have to drill a hole to pass the wire..... Couldn't get the right spot for that hole to pass the cord, so I bailed on that idea for now. I don't want 10 new holes in the factory plastic bumper 2 weeks in...
